Accurate and Versatile at an Excellent $$$
Way better than the hand held I bought at Harbor Freight. Seems to be quite accurate for verifying the temp of an iron skillet, veggie oil for deep frying and even the surface temp of my vacuum pump or trailer hubs. I won't be without one of these infrared thermometers, again!

Worked for what I needed
Used this to check the temperature of my headers on my small block Chevy. Don't know how accurate it was, but it worked for what I needed.

I have no idea what temperature it is reading
As far as I can tell this thermometer reads out "AR" instead of a temperature - and I have no idea what that means. So for me it is basically worthless

handheld no-contact thermometer, battery powered.
I installed two AAA batteries in the compartment below the trigger. You aim it at something and squeeze the trigger and hold it in. After about one second the laser spot comes on, you aim it at the thing to read, hold it for a second or two until the reading stops changing then release the trigger. The spot light goes out and it holds the reading on the display for a few seconds (with backlight on) then shuts off.I find this most useful in the kitchen (deep fryer, fry pan, oven, refrigerator, freezer, hot water, etc.) but it can be used for all sorts of things, like finding hot devices that should be running cooler (bearings, electronics, etc.)From the time you hold it, aim at something and hold in the trigger, until you get a temp reading is about 2-3 seconds. You should experiment with aiming to get the best reading. This is not suitable to determine if someone has a fever. But for non living things where a rough temp is sufficient, its great. Keep in mind this is a reasonably accurate thermometer but not a medical or scientific instrument but understanding that it is very handy and opens a world of information you never had before.Think of the possibilities:electrical malfunctions, mechanical problems, refrigeration/HVAC, automotive troubleshooting, insulation performance, hidden heat sources, charcoal grille, cooking devices, space heaters, etc. If i made a change to something did it actually improve performance? Check the temp of the breakers in your electrical panel, of wall outlets that might be arcing and about to fail or catch fire, which bearing in the fan motor is about to seize? I could go on.I wish I had purchased one of these things years ago, I use it almost daily finding new things to measure.
