Base is too thick, pushes the bed up too high at point of entry.
Although it works well for its purpose, the 1-inch wood base plus the thick rails raise the bed up almost 3 inches at the point of entry. This makes the bed high at that point and is not comfortable. My husband says he feels like he is falling off the bed because the area below the rail (his waist and hip area) is so much lower. If the wood base were removed and the round rail could be hammered down a bit, it might help, but I don't have the time or inclination to experiment with that. Since we have had it for a year, it is not returnable, so we are ordering another style and hope it works better.

My mom uses this and likes it
Purchased for 89 year old mother. So far, after a year, she likes it still, so it must be worth it. Easy to install under the mattress and seems sturdy. Not unattractive, so it is not an obvious old person thing in the bedroom. Blends in well.

Sturdy well designed, works with an adjustable bed.
I bought this for mom's adjustable bed. It's not large, but the design makes it the perfect helper to get her in the bed. Miss Independent has to do it herself and this is sturdy enough to let her.

Great gift for elderly people
I bought this for my elderly uncle who had problems getting out of bed. I had purchased the same model several years ago for my mother after knee replacement surgery. They both loved it!I would highly recommend.

Ease of getting out of bed.
Have been using since coming home from rehab 6 months ago. It was recommended by therapist at rehab center. Was first used to help me sit up. Now helps me to pull myself up so I can get out of bed. Best thing ever invented.

Disappointed
Disappointed that the product is not adjustable. 1st one ordered is, this new one is not. Listing shows not adjustable in 1st pic and and shows adjustable in 2nd pic.

who has been very satisfied with it
Having previously purchased this item for my wife, who has been very satisfied with it, I purchased it with the "buy it again" option from the previous order. To my surprise, this item was NOT identical, because it lacks the adjustable height notches of the rail my wife received. The photo image here does not show notches, so I guess "caveat emptor" [buyer beware] applies. By sheer good fortune, the fixed height of the bed rail is about right for me, so I will not be returning it, but any other repeat customer should be aware of this difference.Otherwise, the Freedom Grip Bed Rail should be fine. It is well anchored under the bed, and is in no danger of slipping out as did the previous bed rail I inherited from my mother. The grip is comfortable.
