Transformed a Harbor Freight Cheap Drill Press!
I've been buying a fair amount of WEN products from power tools (disc sander, track saw) and shop accessories (dial indicator and this 5/8 MT2 keyless chuck) - I am surprisingly amazed at how this inexpensive accessory has transformed a sub-$60 underpowered, wobbly Harbor Freight drill press (#60238) into a notably different tool making it, at least for me, a pleasure to use. I have used it on mostly wood using Ryobi made forstner bits and average quality standard drill bits. I was quite skeptical about improving a low HP and underpowered 5-speed drill press. A complete tear down and evaluation of the parts (except for the motor) along with a runout test for a dial indicator made me believe that this tool is for basic non-critical drilling. Seeing a few posts on YT about folks trying to improve this drill, I researched replacement chucks (keyless) and matched the B16 taper to this WEB item. Based on cost and comparison to similar chucks 5-10 times the cost, I had low expectations. What a pleasant and unexpected surprise a 5-minute conversion from existing chuck and some test drilling. This sub-$30 item has been the best bang for the buck and raises my confidence in buying from this relative newcomer to a competitive market of tools now consolidated with a couple of owners (Red, Yellow, Grey, you know which ones I mean, all bought by huge corporations, none in the USA… check out protoolsreview.com). For the WEN chuck, it is heavy, well machined, smooth in operation, and well packed and delivered without any damage. I did not use a dial indicator to check accuracy because for my needs, the fact that the hole drilled nicely accepted a corresponding insert, whether dowel, bench dog or other part was good enough! I recommend it without hesitation. If you are a hobbyist like me and bought a bottom of the barrel 8" drill press like the HF #60238 with B16 spindle taper, do yourself a favor and spend the $30 on this chuck, you cannot go wrong and you will be amazed at how your experience with the drill press changes.

Great but not for all drill presses
If you're distracted like myself you may buy it thinking it will work on your drill press. Heck, I even watched videos of people installing this chuck on a WEN drill press and show it working. Maybe it does work on some models but I have a WEN 4214 and this chuck did not work when installed. The jaws won't open past 1/8" or so. Uninstalled, it works fine horizontally or upside down but not on the normal position, which made me think it's for a lathe. For my 4214 the correct chuck is the model DPA158L, which is tanged at the top end. I suggest removing your drill press' chuck and inspecting before buying either chuck model.

Works ok
Holds drills well in my mini lathe. A bit loud in the bearings but is true.

Excellent chuck but not correct for Wen 4214 drill press
The chuck is very accurate- 0.002" runrout on my example- and easy to tighten and loosen without tools. However, it’s designed for lathes, not drill presses. The Morse Taper arbor doesn’t have a tang for removal. For a drill press get the Wen DPA-158L chuck. Note model numbers: “LA…” for Lathe Arbor and “DPA…” for Drill Press Arbor!

Missing parts
The chuck came yesterday and to my surprise the MT2 taper shaft was missing. All I got was the chuck.(bummer)I contacted WEN about it and am waiting there reply. The chuck looks to be well made with a nice surface finish and operates smooth with no issues. This chuck is quite large. I have a 7x14" lathe and it eats up about 1/3 more length than a standard chuck.and its very heavy. I dont know at this point if I will keep it or send it back.I cant really do a proper review untill I get the MT2 taper shaft and am able to install it and see what I have.I will update as needed.Update: Wen hasn't responded to my e-mails so I sent the chuck back for refund. This company has poor customer service.Buyer beware!!Update#2Wen finally responded to my complant almost 4 weeks later.Funny thing is they wait until the return window is closed to reply. I am glad I returned it and didn't wait on them. This company has shady business practices.

Exactly as stated
Works perfectly fine. I don't understand reviews that state it doesn't work. or that it needs a "flat part on the end to work" It's tapered and if it fits in your Quill tap it home and use it.
