A good read if you want to trace the beginnings of science fiction writing.It's getting a little dated now but it's easy enough to see past this.

My renewed interest in this work was inspired by a conversation that I had with my friend Peter, who is the great nephew of the Capeks. R.U.R is a classic work, whose theme runs through modern literature. People use science to create artificial beings, in this case robot workers. The Capeks were the first to use the term "robot." The robots get out of hand. End of story.We can see the same line in such works as Frankenstein, The Terminator, and endless Star Trek episodes. So far our robots are still behaving, but maybe some day ...
