Great Pencil Lead - does not break easily, very easy to sharpen to a fine point. Great for drawing!

Works great with the matching lead holders. Staedtler is 2nd behind Tombo for a very consistent and smooth lead that leaves lovely, rich marks on paper. Tombo doesn't make a precision lead holder so this is a very solid choice. It also includes a colored cap you use to replace the cap on your Steadtler lead holder so you can know what lead is in what holder.These are for drafting, but they work wonderfully for figure drawing. Its super handy not to have to fiddle with sharpeners when doing lots of gestures. The lead is still a very nice width even when rounded out from lots of drawing. Its also nicely cost effective compared to expensive Tombo wood pencils that seem to vanish down to an inch long in about 3 eye blinks.Besides just everything about this packaging, the design, the the details, and the companion holders is just so, utterly German. I automatically feel more industrious and precise when using them.

The lead is quality, but it's just not for me.The shading is lighter than the other types of 4B, so there's more variety with the tones, but I have to press down harder for the darker tones. Also, it glides too smoothly for me, since I prefer the lead to be slightly scratchy when I draw. It's great for layering, but harder to create dark outlines.

I use mechanical pencils with various hardness 'leads' for sketching and drawing... these are fine refills that sharpen well for a reasonable price.

These are top quality writing materials: uniform hardness, sturdy, reliable.

Fits my lead holder just fine, works as intended.
