Experimental Landscapes in Watercolour: Creative Techniques For Painting Landscapes And Nature Hardcover – August 5, 2014

This is the second book of Ann’s that I’ve purchased. The first was disappointing in that it did not do enough to explain or illustrate how to get some of the wondrous textures and effects she achieves, but this book DOES just that. There are numerous explanations with detailed instruction on her beautiful effects and that is just what I was looking for. So inspired that i just purchased the DVD of the same title, which I can’t wait to watch. The paintings in this book are so gorgeous, they take my breath away. Ann is an amazing artist and creative force and this book shares it all in the most generous way.

Fine book written by an artist that knows how to teach.

I haven't read the entire book yet as I just received it. BUT, I highly recommend it already. It has very good technique ideas and clearly gives suggestions and inspiration to get going and paint paint paint. The photos are gorgeous. I have her Watercolor Textures book and I do like this landscape one even better. Great artist, great ideas/suggestions. I highly recommend buying this book. I know that I will look at it often for inspiration and new techniques and ideas. Her interpretation of the landscapes are wonderful. Some of the techniques I am familiar with, but Ann explains everything so well it has given me a new outlook in how and what I am painting. I am so very glad that I bought it. Thank you Ann for writing this book. That is my review.............now to go read the rest of this book and paint right now !

I loved the pictures of the artwork and the minimal explanations. I've been painting watercolor for 20 years and wanted to learn about other techniques. I still consider myself a beginner of sorts but don't need instruction on paper, brushes, or colors or wetting or stretching paper. I gave the 4 star instead of the 5 because she does use acrylic inks which are not watercolor but are liquid and can be used with watercolor. Her work is mixed media to the purists. But I found the book delightful.

One of the best Art Idea and Technique type books I have ever read and I have read and own well over 400 titles. This book is so well done, and easy to understand...and can be followed by beginners or intermediate artists, but this is an Artists book for Artists, in my opinion. I believe anyone and especially all artists, beginners to professionals will benefit from reading this book. Truly, this is one of the most inspirational books I have ever read...and the format is excellent. The author discusses the supplies and techniques she has used for the beautiful paintings she has created, but this is not another book that takes up two or three chapters, listing basic art supplies and their use.. I loved her last book, ''Experimental Flowers in Watercolor'' too....but this one truly zeros in on the processes and techniques involved...I say BRAVO to Ann, and to people shopping for a Watercolor and or, even a Mixed Media How To book...you cannot go wrong with this one. Artists, if you are going through a ''dry'' or ''down'' time, this is just the book to inspire your creativity again.

This book is quite inspiring for those of us who are trying to get beyond the traditional in our artwork. Although I am not a watercolorist, I plan to apply some of the experiments to other mediums that I work with, most likely acrylic or oils. The author/artist presents an abundance of beautiful images with an explanation of how certain effects were achieved. The images themselves are enough to warrant owning this book.

I've always liked her father's brooding style, so I looked into this book on his daughter's watercolor style and technique. Whether you paint more realistically or experimental, this book will enhance your skill with watercolors. While I prefer realism, her techniques will certainly help loosen up my painting. And some of the tools / techniques she presents are useful in either, and will be a major help in one developing their own unique style. I recommend it on that basis.

To all those who complain and give the book bad reviews because there is not enough step by step how to material, this book does not claim to be a how-to book. It is true that there are no step by step instructions, so if you want that, this is definitely not the book for you. However, if you don't need to have your hand held through every process, but rather are seeking inspiration and jumping off points to experiment and think outside the box, then I highly recommend this book.

As a watercolour artist of over 30 years painting, this book is an absolute gem and a must have read. I found the content inspiring and motivational whilst being written in a clear and easy read. The book quality is first class and the print and illustrations of Ann Brockley’s artwork are excellent. It is a lovely sized book to handle and read too. Ann Brockley really does express with much enthusiasm how to be free and experimental in helping any artist express an image with individual taste allowing the inner creativity to come forth without limitations. I really enjoyed this wonderful book immensely and have no hesitation in recommending it to artists of all levels to have some creative fun!

El gran descubrimiento de una técnica diferente para la acuarela super moderna... me he aplicado a traducirlo para mi de modo a poderle sacar todo su jugo. Ann Blockley es una excelente pedagoga.... Y muy sencilla de entender . Los cuatro libros sobre el mismo tema son un excelente ejemplo de querer compartir est e arte.
