New Getter Robo

Excellent video and sound quality. Full series in both Japanese with English subs and English dub. A great addition to any anime collection.

New Getter Robo was released in 2004 as an OVA (original video anime) and yet another retelling of the Getter Robo story. The only other experience I have with Getter Robo was the 1998 Armageddon, which I found underwhelming. It just felt like a 13-episode boss fight with a whole lot of screaming and fighting. New Getter Robo is better because it has an actual story, even if the story isn’t fantastic.The word that best describes New Getter Robo is derivative. If you’re someone who’s watched a lot of Anime, you’ve seen this all before. The plot is derivative, the characters are derivative, the animation is derivative. You might see an explosion and recognize it as stereotypical Anime. There is definitely Anime that does its own thing or directors that blaze new trails, but this is not one of them. This is about reusing ideas to satisfy an audience that wants the same. This is the kind of Anime that I watch once and shove in a drawer for the rest of eternity.The ending is about as unsatisfying as I’ve seen in an Anime. I watched the final episode and then sat down to watch the next episode, not realizing that there was no more. The plot of the entire series is very strange. If I understand it correctly, Getter Robo is created to defeat monsters called the Oni but the Oni seem to exist solely to destroy Getter Robo. Maybe they are attracted to the Getter Rays. Getter Robo and the three pilots end up getting pulled back to an alternate past and come across the leader of the Oni named Seimei Abe. When they are back in the present, Seimei returns but is transformed and gets defeated. Suddenly, the Four Heavenly Kings show up as, I guess, the actual main villains and they eventually transform or something and Ryoma splits off to confront some giant form of a Getter Robot and the series just ends. I don’t even get the impression it was a lead into something else because we get a brief glimpse of several years into the future. I think this was the intended ending and it’s very weird.If I were to start recommending Japanese giant robot Anime, this one would not be high on my list. It doesn’t have the retro enjoyment of 70’s Anime nor the high level of quality like Giant Robo or the 2004 Tetsujin-28. It has that late-90’s, early-2000’s feel to it that can grow very tiresome. There is a lot of shouting and high energy and awkward dialogue that is perhaps a problem of translation. I’m loving all the Japanese Anime that Discotek Media is releasing in the west but if you pick this one up, I suggest setting your expectations low.

I am a big sucker for Getter robo series and have all Getterrobo in DVD. Somehow I like New getter more than Shin Getter so can't wait to purchase this Bluray version. Unfortunately Bluray quality is same as DVD version. Maybe slight upscaling here and there but can't really tell much enhancement overall. So save your $$ if you already have DVD.

Go Nagai's second big hit in the field of giant robots after Mazinger Z was Getter Robot that introduces two major ingredients into the mecha genre, one was the concept of an entire team of pilots, but also the first combiner unit. Before Voltron or Transformers started stacking metal mashups, Getter Robot was the groundbreaker for it all. A few years after they finished up two separate OVA series concluding the original arc from the 1970s, New Getter Robo was its own 13-episode OVA as a remake. The anime was its own solid series set aside from the prior Getter Robo incarnations which don't require the prior series' history.Oni are showing up and attacking a special lab housing the space radiation called "Getter Rays" which can do anything from folding space and time, pulling in demons and other monsters from different dimensions, and powers the lab's guardian Getter Robo which is piloted by a trio that can reconverge their vehicles into three battle modes. A disgraced martial artist, a former terrorist, and a reformed monk get pulled into a mad scientist's fanatical mission to halt the repeated monster attacks. Exactly what the Getter Rays are and what they actually do are a serious mystery as it keeps sending people into alternate timelines, gun-toting samurai, and steampunk airships makes for an interesting narrative, but ultimately makes the watcher confused as to what the actual point of it was other than nostalgia for the source material.New Getter Robo did receive a television release but was first and foremost an OVA as it has large buckets of blood being sprayed all over the battlefield. The anime has the same over the top attitude that would later influence titles like Gurren Lagaan, but when making that frame of mind into the sole focus of an entire series doesn't help much if there is no definitive resolution or even a consistent plot. You can watch this whole series now on DVD or Blu-Ray, as well as streaming, even if you still enjoy the ride if you don't expect it to go anywhere.

Overall, it's a conversion of the old series in much shorter episodes.In the original, the professor's son got killed by mini lizards, in New he gets killed by Oni.The original dinosaur empire and getter G's oni empire now fuses to one single Oni identify.Musashi was going to die, so was Benkei, so New fused them into one as well.The oni's boss is a represnative of getter armagedon's pro what got inflicted by invaders, then the 4 Buddha gods represent to Shin Getter's future enemies who came back in time to destroy Getter ray.All of these were recapped from the older Getter series. The animation in last few episode was kinda poor though, probably ran out of fund.

※ゲッターロボ全書などである程度ネタバレしてから視聴。個人的に本作で良かった点は、主人公たちの間にウジウジもギスギスも感じなかったことです。ポイントは2つ。1：適応力の高い竜馬・隼人・弁慶　自分を拉致及び監禁した早乙女研究所で自衛のために戦っていたらあっさり馴染んだ竜馬と隼人に同じく　あっさり坊さんに（一応は）なれた弁慶。そしてこの3人の適応力を再認識できる黒平安京編（第6～8話）。　理不尽な仕打ちや見知らぬ場所でもウジウジせず、自分が何をすべきか瞬時に理解できる主人公、好きです。2：何だかんだで互いを理解しあっている雰囲気　決して狂暴でなく相手の心情を察して最適の答えを出せる竜馬。自身の目的もあるとはいえ竜馬の無茶に　つき合わされながらもお前ならやりかねないと言いたげに笑うだけの隼人。上から目線で毒ばかり吐いている　早乙女博士が胸ぐらをつかまれるくらいで済んでいる。そんな父親に皮肉を言うくらいで自分は好きに　やっているミチル、そして博士もそれを咎めない。　「悪に見えて悪とは言い切れない」奴らが、「アイツはああいう奴だからと認識」し合い、「好きにやる　代わりに互いのやり方に口を挟まない（そして成果を出す）」環境が整っている。そこに温かさはないけれど　冷たさもなく何よりギスギスも発生しにくい。弁慶が勝手な竜馬に激怒したり、ゲッター線に好かれている竜馬に隼人が嫉妬している描写もあるのですが、弁慶と竜馬は「殴り合って分かり合う」間柄に見えるし（第11話はまさにそれ）、隼人も竜馬との仲が険悪になったわけではなく少し文句を言ったくらい。そもそも竜馬自身も（カチンときて手をあげることはあっても）身内相手にケンカを吹っ掛けるわけでもないし。以上のおかげで、竜馬や隼人たちの狂気と無敵の暴れっぷりにゲッターロボの戦闘シーンを心置きなく堪能できました。ゲッターに乗っていようがいまいが関係なし。ものすごく悪い顔をした奴らが、胴体を真っ二つにして、頭を叩き割る。当然血もドバドバ出る戦場。でも何故か見ていてスカッとします。安全な場所から眺めている（←ここ重要）個人の見解ですが、恐怖も嫌悪も忘れるほど突き抜けているからか（竜馬と隼人は突き抜けすぎ）、ＢＧＭと挿入歌でテンション上がりまくりの影響か、ターゲットが悪党とか化物に限定されているからか（一部例外には目を瞑り）。単に主人公に対して贔屓目で見ているだけかも。…ですが、ゲッターの地獄を描いた第9話以降から変化が。爽快感よりも緊迫感が強くなり、早乙女博士が助言らしい助言ができるようになったり、戦いを楽しんでいた感のある竜馬が敵に対する怒りと自分の使命に目覚めたことでカッコよくなったり。そして早乙女博士が毒舌ジジイから良いジジイになった最終決戦前編（第12話）を経て最終回。これで見納めと言わんばかりに気合入れまくりの戦闘シーン（あの状況でＤＥＥＰ　ＲＥＤは反則だと思う）、竜馬・隼人・弁慶は綺麗事でなくても確かに強い絆で結ばれていたという証明、戦いの後の竜馬の選択、そして静かに幕を閉じると思いきや…。最高でした。たとえ未完だとしてもこれでお終い！と言い切る清々しさと強引さ、好きかも。なお、全話視聴後はミュージッククリップの「伝説～ｌｅｇｅｎｄ～」も是非ご一緒に。難点を挙げるとすれば、字幕がないこと（弁慶と晴明が何を言っていたのか知りたい）と鬼の正体や晴明と四天王の関係がチョロッと出ただけで済まされたこと、晴明も断末魔の叫びをあげるとかもうちょっと無残にやられて欲しかったところくらいか。「極悪非道強烈無比なアクション（帯にしっかり書いてある）」に惹かれた方、敵の事情？そんなの知るか！正当防衛（過剰防衛ともいう）の何処が悪いとばかりに敵を容赦なく叩きつぶせる主人公が好きな方、人を支配する奴も人を滅ぼす奴もブチのめしてやらんと気が済ま～～～ん！な方、お勧めです。

タイトル『新ゲッターロボ』ディスク1枚/OVA13話/1080p一般的な国内プレイヤーで再生出来ます（再生環境/SONYの2015年～の最廉価プレイヤー『BDP-S1500』）。タイトルで日本語音声を選択し、字幕を《OFF》にすれば、後は普通に鑑賞する事が出来ます。映像特典は、ディスク1枚に全話収録されているのに、更に英語版クレジット・ノンクレジットOP&ED・ミュージックビデオ（×6）が収録されています。かなりの詰め込み仕様なので、HD画質とは言え少々甘目になりますが、まぁ勢いで見る作品ですから個人的には文句は有りません。ゲッターOVA第3段ではありますが、ゲッターロボを全く知らない初心者の方でも楽しめるリビルド作品です。第1話からゲッターチームが全滅するという怒涛の展開が、アラフォーオッサンの心ですら熱くさせてくれました。なお、エロ要素こそ無いものの（汚い男の尻は有りますが…）、本作はOVAなので、地上波ではNGな、頭チョンパ、腕ブッチー、血みどろドグシャーが多々ありますので、その点ご注意を。北米版ゲッター作品は、国内版プレイヤーで再生出来るものと出来ないものが混在しているので、全て国内版プレイヤーで再生出来ると勘違いして一気買いしないようご注意を。ただ、国内版ではお高めの『新ゲッター』が北米版でお安く購入出来たのは嬉しい限りです♪

漫画版ゲッターに一番近いＯＶＡゲッター。容赦なくバイオレンスな描写もありますし、なにかと面倒くさいことを言う人が多い世の中でこういった作品は貴重ですね。まあブルーレイボックスという高い買い物しようという人は当然内容はご存じだろうから、暴力描写とか全然気にしないんだろうけど。目耳鼻とか。一応ストーリーは一貫してゲッターという驚異がテーマになっている。時空を超えるとか同化するとかもそうだが、隼人の探究心と弁慶のゲッターに対する疑問、その二人のやり取りや葛藤が地味に、本作のゲッターとは何かという命題に深みを与えているように感じる。竜馬は一人でゲッターの核心に到達しちゃったから去るも戻るもあっさりしすぎ。少し気になる点としては一部の回で作画が悪くなってるところ。平安時代に行った回の後半、新宿の晴明戦前半や四天王戦の一部はどうしたんだろうという出来。あんまり金が回って来なかったんだろうか？いや、きっとゲッター線が足りてないんだ！！ゲッター線吸収したら直ったもの！！漫画の真ゲッターロボにもあったゲッターの世界で、ポセイドンもどきとライガーもどきが出てきたのが嬉しい。でも相変わらず敵。Ｇに光が当たるのはいつの日か・・・。新ゲッターロボＧとかできればいいのに。

自分の好きなアニメジャンルは美少女ラブコメやリアル系ロボット、勇者シリーズが好きで、マジンガーZやゲッターロボの様な往年のスーパーロボット作品は避けてました。なぜなら、作品の古臭さや、ロボットのマルっこいメカデザインが嫌いな上、基本的に作品ターゲットが子供なのでストーリー性も無いだろうといった先入観もあったからです。しか〜し！ 本作に触れ、負のイメージは吹き飛びました！ カッコイイじゃん！面白いじゃん！主人公たちの生身肉弾戦からロボットの戦闘シーンまで、とにかく良く動く。特にゲッターロボの戦闘シーンはアクション自体がカッコイイのでゲッターロボのメカデザインが気に入らない方でも話数を重ねる毎に段々ゲッターがカッコ良く見えてきます。ロボ戦闘シーンでは必ずJAMprojectさんの挿入歌が入るので、かなり燃えますよ！また、主人公たちが、残忍で好戦的な性格で鬼も人間も殺しまくる所に意外な面白さがあります。血が派手に飛び散りまくります！ 従来のスパロボ作品は「友情」「愛」を魅力的に描く作品が多いと思いますが本作の魅力はアクション映画の様な爽快感かと思います。本作の印象は良作な大人向けスパロボ作品といった感じ。ゲッター作品初心者やロボットアニメ作品が好きな方なら、かなり楽しめますよ！

僕は、「真ゲッターロボ　世界最後の日」のＢｌｕ-ｒａｙ　ＢＯＸ　を持っているので、それと一緒に観るのが楽しみです！ゲッターロボＯＶＡ１作目「真ゲッターロボ　世界最後の日」２作目「真ゲッターロボ対ネオゲッターロボ」に続く３作品が、新ゲッターロボなので、竜馬、隼人の声は、そのままになっているので、なんだか面白い戦いや、ストーリーが観られそうです！弁慶は、車弁慶ではなく、全く別世界の武蔵坊弁慶という新たな名前になっているかわかります。どんなストーリーなのか、僕は観るのが楽しみです！主題歌もなかなかいかした曲です！
