The Door Shield - Pet Scratch Protector

After our dogs started scratching at the door we needed to do something to protect it. After some research, this door shield appeared to be what would work best for us. The material is nice and sturdy, but not so thick that it is difficult to cut to size or install. I held the material up to the door and marked where it would need to be cut to fit, and after cutting it to size, pressed the adhesive squares to the back of the material. Then you simply align with the door and press on each adhesive square to complete installation. *Note: I attempted to install a new shield (not due to failure of the first shield, just a need for a new one on our end) in colder weather and the adhesive squares did not adhere as well to the cold door. They did eventually work fine but it took a few times of pressing them back on the door and a slightly warmer day for them to adhere fully. I would recommend installing at the warmest point of the day if possible!

UPDATE 9/10/16After about 16mo of use the adhesive still is attached. Survived snowy, cold winter and several months of high heat and humidity this summer. No issues with its function. I do have to replace it though as a small hole has been cracked over the recessed part of the door where my dog scratches to let us know he wants in. I still recommend this product though as the crack was not due to default of the product or design. $12 is a good deal.I put it up today and so far I love it. We put brand new doors in and didn't want the pup scratching on the new door to get in. The clear plastic comes with a film that you peel off after its installed. I thought another review said the stickies didn't work well but I think you need a very clean surface (obviously). Our brand new doors were the perfect surface. It comes with 9 approx 1"X1" stickies. I cut it down to about 30"x31", original is about 35"x35". For $12 I would totally buy again. It's an attractive solution.

I have bought several of these shields. I have an unusual breed of dog that is very destructive and the shields usually last a couple of months before he finally figures a way to pull them down. However, the last one I bought was nothing like the other ones, it was a really heavy green colored plastic that refused to straighten out from where it was rolled up. I left it on our pool table for several days with books holding it down and it still rolled right back up. It was difficult to cut, difficult to manage and the 3M sticky tabs, which were almost impossible to peel the red side off, were no match for the rolling power of the plastic. The stiff plastic pulled the sticky squares right off. My Basenji had it torn to shreds within 12 hours of putting it up. So, the pretty good product that I have purchased several times has been replaced by a piece of junk. I wont waste my money again. I plan to see if one of the craft stores can sell me a piece of plastic.

So far this is working really well for us. we are using it on our screen door to keep the screen from getting destroyed, because our dogs scratch the door when they want in or out. It was packaged well and it came rolled up which did make it a bit of a pain to put up because it kept wanting to roll back up. But i was being impatient and wanting to put it up as soon as it got here and i think if you lay it flat for a few days that would probably solve that issue and make it easier to install. I will say though,that i ended up using screws to put it up because this is a pretty heavy piece of plastic and i just couldn't see the adhesive stickers that comes with it holding it up. Especially with dogs scratching on it. Plus we live in Florida and i'm not too sure that the glue would have lasted too long anyway with all the heat and humidity. But so far its doing a great job protecting our screen and i'm pretty confident that it'll hold up well. Just not sure if it would work as well if i would have used the adhesive that comes with it. So that's something to keep in mind when buying.

I like the premise of this item but the sticky squares that hold it onto the door do not work well & start to peal off after a couple of weeks. Also if your dog has even remotely long nails they will start to cut through it if your dog scratches alot.

So far, so good. Have had this installed on front door for a week. Bought it to keep the dog from tearing up the front door. She jumps up on the door to look out the window when people walk by. It is not viisble from the outside and seems to be working. Great solution for door protection. Comes with clear adhesive strips. Once installed, it is not very noticeable. I lined it up with the muntins and was able to trim around door knob and lock. As you can see from the pics, the dogs has jumped up on it and it stayed in place. I am optimistic it will protect the door from further damage.

La mía quedo justo a la medida pero supongo que si la puerta es más pequeña se debe de cortar y no se que tan fácil sea cortarlo.Tengo perros de raza pequeña que se paran en la puerta y a aguantado muy bien 5 meses.

The theory behind this product is great - the quality of the plastic is good however it comes rolled rather than flat which makes the cheap little sticky tabs totally useless. There is no way that a plastic sheet that thick is going to stay flat on the door using only 3 tabs on the top, 3 tabs in the middle of the plastic sheet and 3 across the bottom. All this product does is roll up and pop off of the door. I would love a refund.

Initially I thought the item was expensive for when it arrived but it is working. Fairly easy to fit, stickers a bit fiddly. I would recommend if you have your dog scratching at a door.
