Initially I was sceptical as it seemed very basic. The dehydrated pad looks hilarious but fills out and is useable once you add a small amount of water. Depending on the soldering iron handle you have the unit may need a little weight to keep it from tipping over but I have not had any issues with it.

I needed to weight the base as the soldering iron tended to tip it if the spring rest was not directly lined up straight with the base but after I weighted the base it held the iron fine

I'm only using a 25watt iron but this stand is so light, it simply falls over with the slightest movement of the flex. I used a couple of 4mm bolts and nuts and it fixed to a more substantial base.In my humble opinion you could make a better one out of a Baked Bean can, although I would strongly advise eating the beans first!Don

Good little solder iron stand but a bit lightweight for heavier irons.

the stand is what I needed. easy to assemble and sturdy, there are 2 small holes in the base which is metal, the larger is to attach the stand to the base the smaller gives you the option of securing the base to a bench in my case I secured it to a block of wood.

The base on this was certainly metal ....but so thin so lightweight. When I put my soldering iron in the cradle it fell over. Good job I was able to pick it up quickly. Far too lightweight base. I thought it was a heavy enough base to support an iron but alas afraid not. Rubbish really.

This will stop you from charring the edge of your workbench! It's brilliant and will hold many sizes of soldering iron. It just needs mounting on a piece of ply or solid timber that can be held in your vice or clamped to your bench. It was delivered quickly and packaged decurely. 10/10
