Cappec KTH04 Instant Digital Meat Thermometer with Target Setting Alert and Backlight

I've gone through two Themapens and for the $100 tag I don't think the build quality lives up to the hype. And, if you drop it just one time it most likely will stop working, like mine did before I had to buy another. Sure it gives the fastest reading available, but if you don't mind waiting a couple more seconds you can save a load of cash.I decided to try this Cappec's Ultra Fast thermometer and I have to say I'm very pleased with it. It takes a little longer for the temperature to stabilize, but I found it to be every bit as accurate as my Thermapen. I had to pay an extra $20 to get the case for my Thermapen, I got a case with the Cappec for free. As you can see from the photo below, the Thermapen case is coming apart at the seams, we'll see how well the Cappec case holds up. The Cappec is much smaller than the Thermapen so it's easier to put in a pocket or hang on your belt. The Thermapen case doesn't have a belt loop and it's too big to fit in a pocket. They both are backlit which is a plus.Finally, let's talk accuracy. The first picture below shows both thermometers sitting on my dining room table displaying the ambient temperature of the room. As you can see, the Cappec has the same reading as the Thermapen.So, less than $20 for the Cappec or $100 for the Thermapen? You decide.I spent my own hard earned money for this product and these are my opinions.

I haven't even had a chance to use this thing. Spent time reading through user manual hoping to find a way to turn this beauty on, gave up, and pulled the batteries out. My voltmeter read 1.2 instead of 3 volts on each battery. Now I have a choice of either spending a trip and another $10 for a pair of those button-size batteries, or to use the same trip to pick up a similar thermometer in the Menards or Home Depot.On a less emotional note - the package looks fine and even the thermometer itself doesn't necessarily feel like a cheap piece of junk. Also it comes with the carry pouch (which, honestly, looks more expensive, than the thermometer itself). However, note that the entire front side of the thermometer is a thin plastic film (not a rigid plastic), so it feels like you will poke a hole through it if press too hard, especially on the area of the LED screen. They'd better used the money they spent on pouch to improve mechanical quality of the unit itself.Another thought on the dead battery fact - did this thing spent an eternity in the warehouse since it was manufactured (then why they call it 'upgraded' version in the item's title) , or this is how the unit drains your battery even when is being turned off (in which case it will cost fortune to keep up with battery replacement)?All-in-all: My customer experience today - 1 star. Don't waste your time. This thing goes back to the seller.

I own a restaurant, so I buy a lot of thermometers. I also buy a lot of batteries. This thermometer turns itself on when pull out the stem, and turns off when you fold it back down. Perfect. It is sturdy, of good weight, and seems to be accurate though I haven't tested it. I haven't had it long, so we'll see how long it works in the rough BBQ environment, but so far I really like it. If it holds up well, I'll buy more.

I bought this thermometer a few months ago and initially thought it was going to be great. I am in the kitchen every day so it gets a lot of use but was well taken care of. At first its only issue was not turning on when opened up and would be really finicky and take a couple of tries, not the worst but still annoying. This problem however got progressively worse and now the only way to turn it on is by removing the battery case and pushing them in to make a solid connection. On top of this, a piece from the internal workings of the device dislodged itself and could be heard rattling around inside which got really annoying. I finally unscrewed it to remove the piece and low and behold the culprit was a poorly soldered piece from the motherboard. (included in picture) I am giving this product a overall rating of 2 stars because I feel that it was poorly built and not meant for longevity or daily use.

I struggled a little bit to understand how it works, but I just had to take of the battery and put it back again. Now It works great!

We have been using this thermometer for over month - grilling several nights a week. You can't beat it especially for the price. The temperature readings have been accurate and consistent. Would recommend this product.

Das Teil sieht hochwertig aus, die Bedienknöpfe sind relativ stabil mit gutem Druckpunkt u. Spritzwasser geschützt. Eingeschaltete Hintergrundbeleuchtung ist auch bei Dunkelheit ausreichend, die Anzeige dadurch gut lesbar. Die Tasten sind mehrfach belegt Anzeige wechselbar von C° in F. Die Fühlernadel schaltet das Gerät bei vollständigem einklappen / rasten aus.Habe das Teil noch nicht beim Grillen verwendet aber bei aufgeheiztem Wasserkocher mal getestet, dabei stieg die Temp. jedoch nicht in1 Sekunde, es waren schon etliche mehr. In sofern finde ich diese beworbene Aussage etwas krass.Übrigens die Anleitung ist nur in englisch, doch das Teil bekommt man auch ohne Anleitung leicht in gang.Wenn es auch etwas länger dauert mit der Anzeige, es ist dennoch handlicher wie diese Fernthermometer, durch das Etui das man auch amGürtel befestigen kann immer schnell bei der Hand.Empfehle das Teil dennoch weiter.

Bin sehr zufrieden dass ich mir keines der empfohlenen Geräte gekauft habe, sondern das auf amazon.de bislang unrezensierte Cappecs Instant Thermometer gekauft habe. Ich habe mich dabei auf die englischen Rezensionen auf amazon.com verlassen, die durchwegs positiv waren (sh. http://amzn.com/B016OWBK2O). Weiters hat der mir bisher unbekannte Hersteller Cappec bei mir Punkte mit einer professionell gestalteten Website gesammelt.Das elegante, modern gestaltete Gehäuse besteht aus hochwertigem Hartplastik, es ist kompakt und fühlt sich wertig an. Die wasserfesten Folienknöpfe versprechen Langlebigkeit. Dank der einklappbaren Messnadel braucht das Thermometer nicht viel Platz und mit der mitgelieferten Aufbewahrungstasche wird es in der Schublade auch nicht zerkratzt.Messergebnisse sind sofort sichtbar, weil der Messfühler sofort anfängt die Temperatur anzuzeigen, bei grösseren Temperaturdifferenzen dauert es halt ein paar Sekunden bis die Nadel sich aufgewärmt hat - dann sieht man wie der Zähler langsam hinaufwandert. Eine Instant-Messung wie in manchen Rezensionen gefordert wird, ist physikalisch nicht möglich (Ausser mit kontaktlosen Messungmethoden wie Infrarot).Die Messgenauigkeit dürfte recht gut stimmen, kochendes Wasser war nahezu bei 100°C, ein paar hundert Meter überm Meeresspiegel und die Zimmertemperatur war im direkten Vergleich mit einem analogen Thermometer auch identisch. Genauer muss es bei einem Küchenthermometer auch nicht sein.Die Bedienung ist intutiv, das Gerät schaltet sich ein sobald man es aufklappt, es gibt eine Hintergrundbeleuchtung und sonst ist es auch selbsterklärend.Die Möglichkeit eine Alarmtemperatur einzustellen find ich etwas unnötig, da man das Thermometer ohnehin nicht im Messgut belassen kann - es würde schmelzen bzw. würde ich es auch nicht im Kochtopf stehen lassen - dafür ist es bezogen auf's Gewicht auch zu kopflastig.In Summe ein sehr zufriedenstellendes Gerät das seinen Zweck erfüllt und gut aussieht.

Das Thermometer hat meine Erwartungen übertroffen ! Es gibt eine deutsche Bedienungsanleitung sowie eine Tabelle für Kerntemperaturen es ist sehr hochwertig verarbeitet die Funktion erklärt sich selber und die Hintergrundbeleuchtung ist gerade beim abendlichen Grillen kaum wegzudenken. die kleine Tasche ist sehr stabil.einziger kleiner Minuspunkt sind die Batterien.es sind Knopfzellen die man nicht einfach mal so an einer Tankstelle nachkaufen kann wobei ich glaube dass diese eine ganze Weile halten werden ich kann das Thermometer absolut empfehlen !

Das Thermometer hinterlässt einen guten ersten Eindruck.Stabil und solide verpackt schaltete es sich beim ausklappen sofort ein.Die ersten Temperaturren wurden in Fahrenheit angezeigt was sich aber sehr schnell nach kurzem Blick in die englischsprachige Bedienungsanleitung ändern lässt.Keine Angst das geht auch mit nur rudimentären Englischkenntnissen.Zur Funktion: Bis jetzt macht es was es soll, es misst die Temperaturen im Gargut, für mich, ausreichend genau.Ich käme allerdings auch nicht auf die Idee das ganze im Labor zu testen :)

Die Temperaturanzeige erfolgt in ganzahligen Gradschritten, was für den Kücheneinsatz vollkommen ausreichend ist.Ein konstanter Temperaturwert wird relativ schnell angezeigt.Das Gehäuse wirk erstaunlich wertig. Den Holster bzw. die Tasche emfpinde ich als überflüssiges Zubehörteil.
