Gosho Aoyama, Clase Closed, vol. 7 (ViZ, 1994)This is an interesting volume in that unlike most of those we've seen so far, the majority of it is taken up with one large story; a serial killer is at loose on an island with a cursed piano whose owner committed suicide twelve years ago. It's done pretty well until we get to the big reveal, which contains the first really huge flaw I've seen in the series (I can't discuss it without revealing the ending, obviously, but let's say a much-overused mechanism in mystery fiction is used here in a way that is almost impossible to believe). We get the first half of the next story, which is stronger: a girl shows up claiming to be Jimmy Kudo's girlfriend, but Conan's never seen her before in his life-- who is she and what does she want? (And can Rachel get through the case without killing her?) Not as strong as we've been seeing, but it's still a fun series. ***
