David Hockney is just one more of a long line of artists with whom I have not been familiar. Certainly I needed to be exposed to this art in my life. This is really a “portrait “ of his life told by segments. Physically he reminds me of Andy Warhol. I find his art wildly creative and very diversified. Although not from a sketchbook, many of his detailed pen line portraits show his capabilities for realism, but in his brain somewhere he has manufactured some crazy abstracts and many variations and combinations also. Much of what he does is based or connected to his life. He is very prolific. The book covers up until 2016. Currently in 2023 he is staging immersive experiences. He says he has more control since unlike other artist he is still alive. If you do not know this artists, you will know him quite well after reading this book.

This cost effective review of a major contemporary artist has brilliant color illustrations paired with cogent text captures the Hockney's work over a lifetime. While the format is not the"art book" style and hence the illustrations are smaller, this makes an excellent review of a compelling artist

Lovely, compact but comprehensive retrospective. Glad I waited for this, over companion book with last year’s tour. Beautifully illustrated. A must have for modern art fans and Hockney lovers.
