ColumbiaMen's Crestwood Hiking Shoe

Mixed Quality / Reconsider Your Normal Size
The Good: These shoes are very nice-looking. In fact, they look much better live than the picture. The outer tread and uppers seem to be made of high quality material. The upper material is strong on the sides for good support on uneven terrain. The shoe strings are high quality - many shoes today have cheap shoe strings and it can be telling of shoe quality, but these shoes aren't top of the line quality-wise and below are my reasons for knocking off 2 stars. The 9.5 W men's shoe was too short and narrow. I put them bottom to bottom with 2 other pair of 9.5W shoes and they came up short both directions. I returned and got a 10 W and it was same length as my other 9.5's but slightly narrower, enough that it was uncomfortable. I liked the shoe appearance so I ended up stretching the shoe width using a small child's inflatable ball, inserting it and pumping it gently (be careful not to over inflate if you do this), allowed each shoe to stretch overnight, and now they are fine. Oddly, an old US made foot measuring gauge shows I need a 9 D (imported item sizes seem to never be accurate). The next issue I had with these shoes are the insert pads in the bottom. They are cheap and provide little cushioning and arch support. They are so cheap it made walking in the shoe feel hard and hurt my feet. I am an avid walker and hiker so comfort is important to me. I ended up using a thin pair of Lyco brand inserts and I now love the shoe.Overall I'm happy with the shoe after my size and insert adjustments. They are very nice looking shoes and I have had 2 compliments on them in just a few weeks.

Quality control issues
I'd say don't get these. Maybe their other models don't have the issues below, but these failed me twice.I was sent a replacement pair after the left shoe didn't fit well on the first pair. The toe box height wasn't tall enough in the left shoe. When the second pair arrived, it was the same situation. That hasn't been a problem with other shoes from any other brand.Another problem is the shape of the sole on one shoe is a bit more curved (picture a banana) than any of the other shoes.I don't know what's up with Columbia when it comes to these shoes. They always seemed like a good brand, and I have two fleece jackets that are fine. Perhaps if they're outsourcing their labor to another country with their shoe department, they should consider moving operations to a more reliable setup with better QC.These shoes don't cut it.

Good hiking shoes when dry but not waterproof or water resistant at all.
I bought these for my husband for a hiking trip where I knew our feet would get wet. I wanted more of a water shoe for him but could not find any in his size so I bought these. He really liked them and said they were comfortable. Our hike was about 4 hours long and he said his feet never hurt. The only exception was that they were NOT waterproof or water resistant at all. The water did soak through to his socks. Aside from that, he liked them. I would recommend these if you know you will be hiking in a dry area.

A great everyday shoe
I used this as a casual everyday shoe, and not a hiking shoe, so this review is based on everyday wear and not hiking use.To me, the shoe seems just like a running shoe, but in a different color (I got mine in camo brown). The sole at the heel is just a bit wider than the upper portion, so it's stable while on flat ground. It's lightweight and comfortable, as well. I have a narrow foot (B/C width) and this fit me better than most shoes in the standard D width. The camo brown color almost has a gray/brown look to it, but it pairs well with brown, tan, and forest green pants. The midsole is a tan color, and while I initially thought it would be too much of a contrast, it looks good with the brown.I didn't care for the laces. As with most shoes, the laces are too long and have too much stretch to them. I replaced the laces with DELELE Thick Round Climbing Shoelaces Hiking Shoe Laces Boot Laces, 45.28", light brown/orange (ASIN: B07FQMSFF7), and they are the perfect length and color match.

Almost 2 Sizes Small
Normally I wear a 10.5 shoe, and I have two other pairs of (cheaper) shoes that are close to the same style. The first pair of these shoes I purchased was a 10.5 and the width was to small (length is fine). I returned them (for a fee) and the 2nd pair just arrived, and they are still too small. Comparing them to my 10.5 Sketchers from Kohl's of the same style they are a 1/4" more narrow. In the pic is the new shoe on the left, a 10.5 Sketcher on the right. These are definitely too narrow for wool socks. Unfortunately the length is such that they are starting to slip at the heel so these will end up as work shoes and won't be my hiking shoes.Additionally, with the 2nd pair one of the shoes it looks like the paper they stick inside the toe of the shoe before they put it into the box was put in before the insole. So the insole was scrunched up, creased, and I had to pull it out, then pull out the paper, then replace the insole. I'll have to buy another set of insoles since that one is now messed up.Overall I'm not very happy with either the sizing of this shoe nor the manufacturing of the shoe.

Still my go to shoes
This is my second pair of Columbia shoes. The first pair I had for three years and are still in good shape except the rubber on the soles have worn down enough to cause slippage so they've been retired to yard work. I've never had a pair of shoes last three years let alone a full year without falling apart. The variety of options and quality of shoes will bring me back for another pair when the day comes to retire these ones.

No cushioning for tired feet.
I have purchased a number of Columbia shoes and boots over the past several years. So I felt comfortable ordering this pair from Amazon. When the arrived, I tried them on. They fit as expected, but the insole had absolutely no cushioning. There is no way I could be comfortable in these shoes. I then went to a nearby Columbia outlet store and tried several other pairs on, with the same conclusion. Columbia shoes are not what they once were. My last pair had Memory Foam insoles and I loves them.I purchased a pair of Sketchers with Memory Foam insoles and returned these.

Y no me venía ninguno... Y los 12.5 US me apretaban demasiado.

Not Waterproof at ALL!
These shoes fit well, and were relatively comfortable. However, I did have some major complaints with them. The biggest issue was the lack of waterproofing. Despite being advertised by Columbia as waterproof, these shoes became quite soggy and soaked with average rainfall on the two hikes I did using these shoes (around 8-15mm). I expected them to repel water decently, but was left with soggy feet for 3 days on two separate occasions.Unless double or triple knotted, the shoes continually came untied. Not sure if it's due to the slippery design of the laces, or because it was wet, but they continually became untied interrupting my hiking. In the future, I will be sure to pick up boots from other brands (The North Face, Merrell, Keen and others), as I believe their waterproofing would be much better. I wanted to like these shoes for the price, but they disappointed, and the return windows has closed unfortunately.
