I have done calligraphy a lot in the past, but my pens got lost and I never replaced them. Then I saw this set.WHAT IS THIS LIKE?PENSThe pens are DICHROIC GLASS!!! Had I known that I would have gotten this with more enthusiasm than I did. They are gorgeous. I have a photo of them for you.HOW DO THEY WORK?The ink that comes with the set is put on the table, the pen is dipped in the ink and the swirls on the tip suck up the ink and then you draw with it until it runs out.WHAT IS THE LITTLE GLASS?The little glass is actually for rinsing the pen with ink so you can change colors. Be sure to have a cloth handy to wipe it off before dipping in another ink.IS THE INK WATERPROOF?No the ink runs very easily.IS THIS SET GOOD FOR A GIFT?This is a perfect gift set. The presentation is very fancy and classy.HOW LONG DOES AN INK DIP LAST?I did a sample painting that I had lost twice when I tried to post it with this review (also lost twice when it vanished) so I am not going to put it up again. But I found I could fill up a lot of a small 6x9 page with lines using 1 dip of color. Solid coloring not so much, but lines go a long time.QUALITY OF LINES?This is like a quill pen- a fine detail type.THE BOTTOM LINEThis set is one of my favorite things. I love that it is dichroic glass and that it makes such long lines before I have to re-dip. I only wish the ink was more durable than it is.MY RATINGFIVE STARS. I love this set and use it often.

This set has two glass dip pens, a glass pen rest, a small glass cup, and five colors of ink in glass bottles. The ink bottles hold 20 mL of ink and include the colors red, orange, green, blue, and brown. The caps on these bottles have a stopper to prevent ink leaking, and there was no evidence of leaking. The glass pens have a thick area where you grip the pen, making it easy on the hands. The tip is a fixed size, so the resulting writing is a fixed width. They warned to not press too hard or the glass tip can break. The ink runs so smoothly that you do not need to press hard. All you have to do is open a bottle, dip the pen in so that the spiral pattern above the tip takes on ink, let any accumulation of ink at the tip drop back in the bottle or gently touch the inside edge of the bottle, then write. The ink is strong enough to be easily read. You can write several sentences before it starts to get faint, but it's still pretty readable at the point that I re-dip the pen. The pen will take on less ink if you just dip the pen shallowly in the ink, so this may be a problem as the ink is used up. Still, I find this so much easier than metal dip pens. To clean up, simply rinse under running water and dry. Because the pens are made of glass, I do store them with the cap over the tip and placed in the foam in the box that it came in. Since it is so easy to use, I expect to use this often. I'm very pleased with this product.

I've had my eye on my very own glass pen for a while now, but never quite too the plunge to buy one for myself. Not only do I wish I'd gotten one sooner, I plan on giving out a whole bunch to friends this christmas!There's something magical about these pens (beyond even how beautiful they are), the way that they just keep working and working and working after you dip them in the ink. When you first dip them, the tip is just coated in ink, but as you write, the coating fades away bit by bit until there's almost no ink left and you have to re-dip. Even the way the ink looks as it disappears slowly from the tip of the pen is beautiful.I covered most of a full page in writing on just two dips of the pen. I'm seriously considering getting myself a fancy journal and writing a novel in the absolute most hipster way humanly possible -- glass dip pen.The feel of writing with this pen is more mechanical pencil than calligraphy pen, thanks to the fact that the tip isn't at all flexible and needs to be handled with a bit of a light touch. I'm not an artist, so I don't know how well the pens would do for an artist, but for my purposes, as a person who likes writing things by hand, they're fantastic, a new and interesting way to write.Oh, and cleanup is a snap. Run the tip of the pen under running water for a few seconds, dry with a paper towel. Good as new.These pens are great if you just want to treat yourself, and would be a great gift. I'm a believer, and considering starting a collection.
