Recount: The Story Of The 2000 Presidential Election [DVD]

HBO Leaves Out.... What THEY KNEW, by the end of the making of the movie
As I write this 18 years later, after an even more, if possible, contintious election result... I'm reminded of the continiuous bias toward the democrat's side I noted the first time I watched this film when it first came out... It permeates the entire picture,,,BUT ESPECIALLY THE ENDING... By the time HBO released this film the NYTimes, WaPo, and several of the alphabets had conducted a ballot by ballot recount of the entire state. Every ballot you see in the end scene WAS hand counted... Al Gore lost... not by much, BUT HE LOST. Indeed; George W Bush AGAIN, never trailed. Period. Full Stop. Not only that, but analyzing turn-out models of Republican voters in the two preceeding and two following elections in the Florida panhandle indicate that the MSMs grotesquely early call BEFORE those polls had closed cost George W Bush as many as 25,000 additional votes. This last election saw every one of the major broadcasts ALL discounting the strength of conservative votes in the panhandle and N Florida in general once again. I say this as a native Floridian who's been affiliated with two congressional and one senate campaign and decades ago, majored in PolSci.

Fun to watch but clearly biased.
This movie was a lot of fun to watch. Pretty high paced so I had to rewind many parts cause I actually like to comprehend what the actors say. However, I knocked a star off cause it is so clearly biased to the liberal side. They had a scene where they had someone from the Bush side say something like "this is a political street fight" (painting them as ruthless) then literally cut immediately to someone in the Gore camp saying "we don't want a political street fight." (coloring them as principled and civil). That's just one of many examples of clear bias. I could see past that and enjoy it though.

Intelligent, fast-moving, and fun to watch... You'll probably learn something too!
Fascinating dramatization about the Bush-Gore election of 2000 and how the key players jostled for advantage as events unfolded. Even though we know how things turned out, the story is still compelling to watch, with its quirky characters, and fast moving plot twists. The narrative is slightly biased toward the Gore camp, but is even-handed enough that the viewer also gets to see how the Bush side interpreted the situation. The final arguments to the Supreme Court are faithfully reproduced and help explain the issues that ultimately decided the case, especially the violation of the Equal Protection Clause resulting from having different standards for counting votes in different counties.I remember thinking at the time, like many people, that the Supreme Court had simply stolen the election for Bush. But after watching this film, I came away with a deeper understanding of the legal reasoning that led to the Supreme Court's decision. In retelling the story, the film raises many provocative questions about our system and the process of counting votes. The central question remains: in a close election where the instructions and voting mechanisms are clearly imperfect, is it any more fair to use a subjective and inconsistent system of trying to ascertain the intent of the voter? The Court said no, but your opinion will probably be based on who you supported in the election.

Great Movie! Even Though You Know How It Ends!
Really good movie that relayed the accounts in a way that were easy to comprehend. All though I was only 11 years old at the time of this election I remember feeling really anxious about the outcome... as a kid! I think that election is the reason I have been into politics as much as I am and this movie is a great reminder why. Watching this movie has also reaffirmed why I am more of an "Independent" when it comes to the two parties, and although I tend to lean Conservative, I think there was absolutely more hurdles for Gore and probably was going to end differently. If you want to better understand what was going on, or even jsut want a good Political Thriller type of movie to watch, "Recount" is by far the best one even if you do know how it ended.

I remember Election 2000. It happened to my homestate, Florida. It was awful and crazy. On the late night of Election Day, I noticed the color of Florida kept changing several times on TV screen. I heard a news anchor said Florida has a problem on TV. An old male volunteer forgot bag of vote ballots in the trunk of his car the day after an election on a local TV news. On Election Day, I went to a vote booth to do something in the building, not the hanging chad. My vote ballot went into a machine automatically. I thought I have no problem. That movie mentioned my home county, Volusia, a few times. Thanks to HBO moviemakers of "Recount" for mentioning it. I appreciate. "Recount" is a very dramatic!

How is an election stolen? Watch it to get some detailed insight.
Need more productions like this to keep people informed about what transpired in recent history. It is really unbelievable to see tens of thousands of votes were left out knowingly by a states legislature to enable one party to win. We have seen this kind of exclusion in Virginia more recently and how critical it could be - possibly leading on to decide the faith of a nation and many other invaded nations. Also lays it in clear terms how critical supreme court's role is in a constitutional democracy (currently with two highly contested appointments by Trump!).

A tale of everything but a Democracy
You see firsthand ,of every way to get around the truth ,what is just, what the people want. This isn't the first time this corruption has happened in voting. One side does everything they can,to get their way. Think of all the people ,who wouldn't have lost half their money, their homes, their lives in war, etc., had the other man become the rightful president. The outcome is nothing but disturbing.

Must see political docudrama
Ok, so some Dem bias and bs ... if you know the facts as they actually occurred, you can deal with it. Stellar cast, stellar acting. Must see for political junkies.

House of Cards mixed with the West Wing.Brilliant
Typically well researched HBO Tele-Drama with an amazing cast, all wrapped up in something so Weird that Aaron Sorkin couldn't have made it up.
