Fisher & PaykelDrum Bearing Kit for Dryer - ‎4 x 4 x 3 inches

I've had a F&P washer and dryer since early 2007. This bearing is a designed wear point on the dryer, and is the only maintenance I've had to do to either unit. We run about 400 to 600 loads per year through these.Found the bearing needs replacing somewhere around 2,000 loads or so, or for my duty cycle, every 3 years give or take.You know it's time to replace when it starts making unusual moaning and groaning sounds while rotating.First replacement I replaced the shaft and the bearing as recommended. You can find the full service manual online with your favorite search engine, look for "fisher paykel 517760B shaft", and look for "uncleharry" site or similar, download the full PDF.Instructions have you pretty significantly disassemble the dryer to replace the shaft. The first and second time I replaced the shaft (in 2010 and 2013), I was able to do it without disassembling the dryer. I bought a deep-well 7/8" socket (3/8" drive), and took a grinder to the outside of the socket to make it a very thin-wall. Then it would fit in from the dryer drum side after the bearing was removed. You have to "push" the outside wall of the dryer to get the blind carriage bolt to grab while re-attaching the new shaft. Once it grabs, you can tighten easily with your ratchet and 7/8" socket.Third replacement in 2015/2016, I decided to see what happens if I just replaced the bearing and not the shaft. So I did that. I would say roughly that not replacing the shaft took about a year off of the life of the bearing, so I had to replace it a year sooner than I would have had to otherwise.Just replaced again today (Mar 2019). This time, and for the first time, I completely disassembled the dryer per the service manual. Remove the lid, locking mech, front, entire drum assembly comes out, one side comes off, belt tensioner, the whole bit. Took about 3 hours total. I was glad I did, the inside was FILTHY with dog hair, sand, dirt, hair and I found a misrouted (from factory) wire bundle that had some melting that I repaired. Tools needed included medium flat and #2 Philips head screwdriver, head-mounted flashlight, shop-vac, a few damp towels, 7mm 1/4" drive socket / ratchet with 3-inch extension, 1/2 drive ratchet w 7/8" deep-well socket, blanket, and a pair of leather gloves. The metal pieces inside are sharp, like razor-sharp, and will slice you into pieces without gloves. Highly recommend using. I took about a gallon or two volume of hair and yucky stuff out of the inside of the dryer, so definitely was worth disassembly just for that safety cleanup. Followed the aforementioned guide step-by-step, and it took about 3 hours total. I'm pretty handy but had never done this disassembly before. Worst part was getting the front panel aligned and back on, would have been easier with a helper.Each time I've been very happy with how much quieter the dryer is after I'm done. Huge F&P fan, will definitely buy again when these die, they are great high-quality units.

Easier to install than I thought it would be. My wife and I had it done in 20 minutes, not including the time to grind down a 22mm socket to fit through the drum to remove the shaft. I bought the Sunex 2622 Extra thin wall socket recommended on Amazon and it was still to large to fit. Caution when mounting the bearing (bushing), you cant just align the 5 holes to any of the 5 threaded hole in the drum. It only fits one way, align the clearance holes with the rivets in the drum.

Seems pricey for what you get which is why I’m only giving it 4 stars. It did fit my DEGX1 and there were a couple of good YouTube videos on how to change out the part. Definitely some work to change it out. I did notice the belt tensioners were also making some noise so greased them which took care of the extra noise. They’re another $100 on Amazon though and I’ll probably have to buy those if the noise comes back from them. If your DEGX1 is making noise you may want to check these too. Not sure $250 is worth it for the age of the dryer versus just buying a new one assuming you have to change out both parts.

Was a bit unhappy about the price, but I'm glad I went with this kit. It contains the whole replacement kit and instructions. Wish I had taken receipt of the kit before I removed the old bearing assembly, it would have saved me some time. Still that's my own fault for being impatient. Once the kit arrived it only took ten minutes to install. It took longer than that to re install the front panel to the dryer. It takes a bit of encouragement to get it all aligned and fitting, especially if you have inadvertently distorted the rhs panel reaching in to hold the bearing bolt in place. By the way, I left the bearing bolt in place by sticking a piece of masking tape over it, that way I minimized the risk of it dropping down the side panel which I would imagine would be a real pain in the neck.Anyway, really happy with the purchase. Would highly recommend.
