Crooked

This is a beautiful book born of a marvelous concept. After following this project as it unfolded, the book makes a wonderful keepsake and the online content alone is more than worth the price. This is an excellent album, as good as anything Kristin Hersh has ever done and the two companion EPs are yet another excellent supplement to it. The whole project is a testament to KH's openness, both to her fanbase and to new avenues of communication, as well as to innovative artistic concepts. I've seen other artists follow in her footsteps already. I honestly can't say enough about Kristin Hersh. She's good people.

Kristin Hersh is one of the most amazing and talented musicians in the history of the world. Her voice is so unique - no one compares. Her writing style is so beautiful and comforting. I have been listening to her for almost 25 years, and I'm amazed by everything that comes out of her brain. If you like Kristin Hersh, you will LOVE Crooked - if you don't know who Kristin Hersh is, I suggest you find out what you've been missing all these years.

Love Kristin Hersh. This is beautiful. The book format with digital download is a wonderful idea- you get beautiful artwork and lyrics, but you don't have an easily broken scratched or lost cd and cd case. Had trouble finding the digital download code but searched online and found a site where I could listen free.

Another great album by Kristin. I love the novel idea of distribution. The book alone was worth the cost; the music makes it a must have.

One of Kristen Hersh's finest albums, and the accompanying hardcover book is a nice touch. The book is filled with beautiful photography and lyrics from the album. The songs are wonderfully performed gem pieces which stand out from anything Hersh has done in the past.

I received only the book and not the CD itself, whereas with "Purgatory/Paradise" I received both. I like the idea of the book to accompany the CD but it shouldn't be this confusing and difficult to get the music itself. The description should be more specific and say explicitly whether the book contains a CD or not. It shouldn't be this difficult to be a consumer and might ultimately defeat the purpose of releasing in book format.

This may be the best work Kristin Hersh has ever done, and is certainly her best since the Throwing Muses album University about 15 years ago. Crooked, Krait, and Flooding are each incredibly powerful songs that everyone should experience. The presentation is also really cool--what other artist would include a commentary track on an album?! If you have any interest in Kristin Hersh, the Throwing Muses, or any music, you really should hear this album.

This really is a very special item indeed and an interesting concept that actually works! When you get the book (which is a really nice to have item in itself), you can access a wealth of extras, not least the Crooked album itself. I have followed Kristin's carrer for some time now and can honestly say that this album is definately one of her best. The songs, the instruments, that voice....its all there and definately a return to form. Not only that but you can download another 2 EPs which will give you all told about 80 mins worth of music (inc the Crooked album). So basically for less than a tenner you're getting a fantastic full length album, 2 EPs, a beautiful hardback book to accompany the album and other extras on line as well. Bit of a no-brainer really. If you've admired the work of Ms Hersh at any stage in her career, then this is for you. And if you've never heard of her, its still for you.

Simply top class.....this is one of my favourite albums by Kristin, the book is a huge bonus explaining the background to all the tracks and sprinkled with poems and stories.

"Crooked" ist ein typisches Kristin Hersh-Werk, keine Frage. Eines der besseren sowieso, weil sie wieder etwas lauter spielt, nicht mehr so introvertiert wie zuvor. Wunderbare Singer/Songwriter-Idie-Songs der Frontfrau der Throwing Muses. Wie das neue Throwing Muses Werk "Purgatory/Paradise" hat Hersh aber einen sehr seltsamen, vermutlich als Protest gegen die Plattenindustrie gemeinten Vertriebsweg gewählt: "Crooked" gibt es als Buch, übrigens lächerlich billig (für 3 Euro!), doch dann kann man sich die CD komplett runterladen, und dazu noch Demos, Outtakes usw.... Auch das komplette booklet ist digital verfügbar sowie der Zugang zu Videos etc. Im Buch selbst finden sich die lyrics, dazu essays usw.Ein unglaubliches Komplettpaket - das von deutschen Musikmagazinen komplett ignoriert wird, weil es als Buch veröffentlich wurde!!! Dabei handelt es sich natürlich um Musik. Auch bei amzon findet man das nicht unter Musik, sondern unter Büchern/books. Schade, dass dieses Kleinod dadurch in Deutschland völlig untergeht.
