My daily shave buddy
I purchased the blue shave bowl made by Jay's Clays. The bowl is well made , sturdy, easily held, and very pleasing to look at. It works very nicely with tube shave cream as well as building a lather from a puck or hard shave soap. Clean up is simple & easy, just rinse & wipe dry & you will be ready for tomorrows shave. I am very happy with mine.

Nice lathering bowl!
Blue pottery shaving bowl arrived one day early. It was well packaged and cushioned in two boxes in bubble and paper wrap. It survived my sister kicking the package from the doorway into the front hallway. When I showed her what arrived she said "Oh s**t! I kicked the package across the floor" Thanks alot sis' :) Included was a hand written thank you note that was written on the reverse of a business card. The bowl is exactly what I expected and what has been described: a swirl in the bottom, hand dented sides and a nice blue glaze. It fits in the palm of my hand and fingers. I make my lather from a charged brush from either a mug with soap or a tub of cream and proceed to use a separate lathering bowl to make my lather. My two other bowls have smooth sides and this textured bowl seems to make a good lather, I don't know maybe it's just me. For those of you who are clumsy or shave in the shower I would be careful of this bowl from slipping out your fingers and breaking. Other than that this little bowl is great.

Just the bowl for which I've been searching.
This is truly an excellent shaving bowl. The sides are not perfectly round, but have very slight bumps which aid in holding the bowl with a wet hand. It's large enough to work-up a quantity of lather yet not so large as to be difficult to hold. The rim of the bowl turns slightly inward, and there is a shallow inner ridge which prevents the lather from splashing out as you work the brush. My bowl had a spiral ridge in the bottom that helps to hold the disc of soap in place. The color is variegated, as you would expect in a truly hand-made product, from a very pleasing deep cobalt blue through a dark sky blue.My bowl arrived very well packaged and cushioned and was very promptly shipped.I'm sure you'll be as pleased as I am with this handsome product.

Excellent Lather Bowl! Highly Recommend!
I don’t normally write reviews, unless an item really deserves it: good or bad. I have been wet shaving for many years. I have been wanting a new, deeper lather bowl for a while now (I was currently using a shallow bowl made of horn) and came across this. This bowl is HANDMADE in the USA! Not only that, it was priced around that of mass produced items from China! Upon receiving my bowl, I couldn’t wait to try it out! So I filled it with hot water to warm, and loaded my Badger hair brush with soap. And then the magic happened! In NO time at all, I had thick, creamy goodness whipped up in the bowl and in the brush! The spiral ridge really helps create the lather. I highly recommend one of Jay’s bowls to ANYONE that uses mug & brush to shave! The bowl was WELL PACKED, with 3 or 4 layers of bubble wrap around it in the box. And a hand written thank you note from Jay was a nice touch as well!

Got this for my husband because he was using an old plastic takeout container. He was really picky with the size and type of bowl. He uses the bowl to fill with water to clean his razor after each pass. He definitely likes this bowl. It is so beautiful too. I know he wishes it were a little bit bigger, but uses it nonetheless. I enjoy having something beautiful to look at instead of the plastic take-out container. It's very well made too. Very solid.

works fantastic
I have had my new lather bowl for two weeks now. I LOVE IT!!! I warm the bowl by filling it with hot water for A minute. A Place soap on the brush and then flick it side to side for A few seconds. Instant thick lather and it is warm. I then apply to my face. I do this for the first shave and then the second. The most comfortable and pleasant shave in many years. My beard is very tuf and thick. This ceramic bowl and its designed interior surface is better than any of my prior bowls. (metal)

Great In Every Way
After looking at countless shaving bowls, this beautiful blue one caught my eye. It arrived as pictured. I love it! It will float in hot water, keeping your shaving soap warm. You'll get a nice lather from it. And it's kind of calming to gaze at its nice blue glaze. I may get another one (in case I drop it, perish the thought). Jay of JaysClays is truly accomplished as a ceramicist. I'm really glad I got this bowl!

Good workmanship but not the thickest sides which might make it a bit more fragile
It’s a very handsome shaving bowl and I think the work done on this was good. Having said that, it’s also very thin walls and pretty light. On the one hand that make it easy to heat the actual bowl up, on the other hand, mine slid off the counter into the sink and shattered on my third use. I’m not blaming Jay for the breakage, but I will say my previous scuttle was much heavier with thicker sides and it lasted me for 15 years. Of course I also paid 3 times as much so I think you have to decide on what it is you are looking for.
