Worked perfect
Came home from work when it was 98 degrees F outside and found my house at 89 degrees F inside. I walked out to the AC unit and saw the fan running, heard a humming sound, then it went away. The humming sound started again about 45 seconds later, then off again. I grabbed my meter, shut everything down, pulled the breaker knife, and disassembled the panel (2 tech screws). I found the 40/5uf capacitor and tested it. The Fan side was 4.88uf, but the compressor side was 8.98nf. I immediately jumped on Amazon, found this one, ordered it, and 2 HOT days later, it arrived.Once it arrived, I checked it. The Fan side was 4.98uf, and the compressor side was 39.88uf.It is easy to install; everything is labeled (C = common - yellow on my unit, FAN = Fan - white on my unit, HERM = Compressor - blue on my unit). Reconnected everything, fired it back up, and the house is cooling down!

Much cheaper solution and an easy DIY fix for your central A/C
This summer we had over twenty 100 degree days, and my outside compressor shutdown. The most common problem is the capacitor goes bad. Heat is the enemy of electronics. If your A/C is 5 years or older and sits in the sun, then likely it is the capacitor. I called a local heating and air company to get their charges. $99 for the service call and another $200 to $280 for the capacitor. If one is handy and follows ALL SAFETY issues they are easy to replace. There are many online resources on how to make the switch to the new capacitor. However, cannot stress the importance to follow all the safety guidelines.

Seems to be a 370/440v 40/5 and not a 45/5.
I tested with a fluke before installing. I needed a 370v 45/5 microfarad, that is what I pulled from the condenser at least.I tested capacitance and my readings were 38.00/ 4.30 mcrofarad. That would be in the allowable limits of a 40/5 capacitor ad not a 45/5 capacitor.I gave it four stars because it still worked for me for the time being, it appears to work well for my application. I'm not spending the day inside a 87F house anymore and it was able to be overnighted from Amazon. It saved the day, so it works, but mine should have been tagged as a 40/5 capacitor.

Bryant AC unit
I noticed the fan stopped working on our 5 year old Bryant 3 ton ac unit. I didn’t want to wait for a warranty call so I purchased this capacitor after testing the old one. The capacitor tested ok but was not able to start the fan. Swapped in this new capacitor and the unit is working again. The old capacitor started the fan very loudly so I had an idea the capacitor was on the way out. We will see how long it lasts, but these are consumable parts and commonly fail after a certain amount of use.

Works
Replaced this with other things at the same time in my outdoor unit. Works fine.

Working great so far
Working great on my Bryant AC system. I checked it out of the box and I think it was reading within less than half a microfarad of spec.I wish the terminals were color coded like my old one and wish the label was in the bottom so you could read it when strapped into place, but worth the money. It was delivered the next day thanks to Amazon, but I’m going to buy a couple spares (I have 2 systems) for next time as it only takes 5 minutes to swap and I can’t go without AC.
