miDoor Internet Garage Door Controller and Remote

Bought a pair of these to integrate into my Indigo server for home automation. Worked good to very good for about 1.5 years.Now today there are problems.HW issues - the garage open switch on the wall for one of them no longer actuates every push. What this means is that sometimes you press it and it opens and other times it doesn't. Some times it requires up to 10 pushes to get it to open/close. This is on the least used of the doors.SW - Indigo runs on Apple. Indigo ha to roll out a new version to keep pace with the OSx releases. This was a paid upgrade. Now, that version and all new versions do not support miDoor. Indigo states that if that miDoor would update their plugin, it would work again. MiDoor won't.Lack of updates - i dont blame them. they got paid on purchase. im not going to spend anymore money.miDoor is symbolic of the second wave of IoT devices - single function solution developed to automate / enable previously offline hardware into a software world. these were often closed systems without published apis and if they did integrate, it required specific code. all of these one-off solutions are dying quickly. the ones that opened up and partnered, are the ones that are flourishing. rachio sprinklers, hue lightbulbs, nest thermostats and cameras, chamberlain myq, etc. These were actually not the best of breed, just the savvy ones. I setup mine today. Fairly straight forward until I arrived at the part of connecting to the router.Called customer support and spoke with one of the owners of the company and received excellent support.We worked together and setup all the info needed. I would highly recommend this product designed andmade in the USA.You won't be sorry, does what it says and then some!Steven R.

It works but you have to have all four bars of internet service or it doesn't, it's ok for the price, but wouldn't buy again

This is a great wigit for those who are comfortable with router settings.The mechanism itself was easy to install (make sure you're near a power source to plug it in)It literally took me 3 hours with a geek friend guiding me on trial and error basis - resetting router & ip settings.Don't rely on customer service over the phone - only emailonce installed you need to be within the wifi range to operate your garage door - didn't quite get that nuance until really digging into understanding how it worked. That said - it's pretty cool to open your garage with your cell phone or ipad.

It works and does what it claims. Updates on app work well. Internet based control works well.Packaging is basic at best.Installation is simple. Wire connectors are too small and make wiring unnecessarily tedious.If you are looking for a turn key solution then this is it. It is universal and will work with any garaage door setup. Wifi signal is strong enough through walls.App works fine but could use a tablet adapted version - current app only works in portrait mode so you have to turn the tablet...

Somewhat difficult to set up. Still not able to get it to work away from my home network. A call to the mfr and/or my ISP I a required

Works perfect! Sometimes we could never remember if we closed the garage door. Now all I have to do is open the app on the iPhone and presto.. I can instantly tell if the door has been closed!

I've been looking for this device for so loooonnng, and eureka!!! This is an excellent product backed up by excellent customer service. Kudos, Andrew (of support)! I would admit that it takes a techie person to really find out about this kind of gadget as an add-on to your garage door, and setting up the magnetic switch, routing the wires, installing WiFi range extender need some real hobbyist skills. BUT, if your have an excellent customer support, all efforts are worthwhile. I didn't mind the setting up process because Andrew just knew everything from troubleshooting tips and actual email or even phone step-by-step guide (whichever method of communication with customer support works just perfectly - that is rare!). Right now I am enjoying remote door opening access using my iPad, iPhone, Android phone, and rarely using the PC. I can monitor, too, when my family member has come and opened/closed the garage after I left our home early in the morning. The programmable email alert is cool, which sends you an alert that the door has been left open for how many minutes you've set it up. This product is really commendable and help is available. Tips for new installations: make sure your router is close to the miDoor device, otherwise, it'll have difficulty communicating with it. I have a Linksys router with a range extender just a yard away from the miDoor device in the garage. Future developments like easier configuration set up using QR code could be my suggestion, as well as remote set up by the company maybe. Overall, I would recommend highly this miDoor device. :)
