Hooray for Hat!

Cute Pictures, Terrible Writing
I don’t think you need to make children’s books so simplistic that they border on bad writing. There are plenty of books in my toddler’s library where I think, “That’s a good story and clever writing and illustrations” (eg Little Blue Truck, I Want My Hat Back); unfortunately Hooray For Hat is not one of them. I got it because my almost 2 year old is obsessed with hats. She likes looking at the pictures but both her father and I really hate having to read it to her. Also, I have a few questions like, who sent Elephant this present? Why do they keep cheering “Hooray for hat!” when there is clearly more than 1 hat? Why are all the animals in a pissed off mood? The saving grace of this board book is that the message at the end is nice but not worth the money.

Adorable!!!!
I bought the book box subscription for one of my granddaughters, and this was in one of her boxes. Oh, my, she does love this book. Elephant wakes up very grumpy, and then he gets a delivery of a box containing hats. So he puts all of the hats on his head, and goes visiting his friends, who are also grumpy, giving each of them a hat and making them happy, too. The illustrations are very cute and clear, and the story is very nice. Both my daughter and granddaughter loved it so much that I also bought this book for my 18 month old grandson, and he loved it, too.

rEad this book to a grumpy child and they will smile.
This is a great children's book. i love the repetition. I directed a play using this book with my grandchildren ages 5 and 3 and provided all the hats and they loved doing it!!!!! Grandpa played the grumpy sick giraffe. everyone cheered Hooray for friends!Their parents loved it. I'm looking forward to Brian's next book.

Wonderful book about emotions
This book has been extremely helpful to me in teaching classes of toddlers about emotions, friendship, and turning a bad day/grumpy mood into a good one. I have 13 toddlers in my class, and they go around all day putting “hats” (or baskets, or towels) on their friend’s heads and saying their best “hooray for hat” cheer. An instant hit, when read with your best grumpy face, stomping feet, and perhaps a hat or two to share.

Great book with great illustrations
Fun book for kids. Teaches about how we can get upset and change our attitudes, and the joy of giving and friendship. Love the board book format.

Cute book
One of my daughters favorite books! She loves to make a grumpy face to go with the grumpy pages, and makes a happy face when they’re happy. Great intro to emotions.

Good rhyming book
Love the sing song flow of this book. Pictures and naming of the animals are good teaching tools. I did not care for the very end of the book. I thought it could have made a more gentle lead into the conclusion.

Lovely read
Lovely read with my 6 year old when she was having a little issue with friends at school and competing for one best friend. Good lesson about kindness within the text

Not worth it
Very boring story - didn't interest any of the children I read it to. Def not one to pass down the generations. If you are looking for an incredible book for kids try something like: "The Seven Silly Eaters" by Mary Ann Hoberman and illustrations by Marla Frazee

Super cute story with lovely pictures
Super cute story with lovely pictures. A great follow up activity you could do with the kids is creating your own hats and sharing the happiness!
