quick, earnest and endearing.
This is a really nice collection of stories and the odd poem. It does a great job of capturing dirtbag climbing culture and spirit. It feels like a real indie gem. Nice work Luke Mehall!

Characters, Climbing, and Camaraderie
Once again, Luke Mehall crushes it with his second book Great American Dirtbags. This continuum of tales establishes Luke as one of the best climbing writers of the day for his ability to describe emotions which are often difficult to pinpoint in words. "Something that often gets lost when climbing is recorded and put into words," Mehall writes, "is the down moments when you're not climbing, those horizontal moments, watching the sun set over the campfire, even just sitting at the crag, experiencing freedom, friendship." Here's to freedom and friendship and those treasured horizontal moments! Climb on.

Fantastic Book!
in 'The Great American Dirtbags', the lifestyle that Luke describes is a far cry away from what most of us think of, when we think of the American Dream. But Luke, and those like him are living their own American Dream, relentlessly pursuing their interests and passions, to wherever they may lead. Not many people have the guts to live the way Luke did, to abandon the stability of a house, or a steady income. The stories presented here are incredible and inspiring .10/10

Dirtbag Anthem
great read, a bit of a choppy style for my usual taste. Although this style ended up being easier to put down and return later when I had the time. this book let's you glimpse in on the dirtbag lifestyle, if you don't see the romance as well as the hardships of reality after this book, you probably won't ever.

Wonderful Book!
A wonderfully written, insightful, and though provoking book. Mr. Mehall, through his reflections, gave me glimpses into the world and minds of climbers. A thoroughly enjoyable book that can be read by both the "dirtbag" and "non-dirtbag" alike (no prior climbing experience required). I very much look forward to reading more of his writing.

Amazing read!
Amazing book! I couldn’t put it down. The short story format makes it great for reading in intervals but also flows together well for longer sittings.

Luke has such a great vision into a climbers psyche without patronizing the reader
Luke has such a great vision into a climbers psyche without patronizing the reader. His writing style makes you want to meet the characters in his books, and make you feel like you already have.
