Apache 5800 Rolling Carry-On Hard Case (Compares to Pelican 1510)
The media could not be loaded. Let’s start with that Pros - It’s watertight, dust proof and impact resistant. If you’ve ever handled a Pelican case you know these things can take a beating. This is as big as you can get for a carry-on on a plane. For Features - It comes with 4 pieces of foam - 2 of them being pluck and pull inserts to customize for your gear. It has caster wheels. It has pre-drilled holes so you can put locks on the case. It has an O-ring around the perimeter for water sealing and a pressure release valve. Handles on top and side and an extension handle that makes transporting the case a breeze. As far as Quality - This thing is built like a tank. The materials feel great and I wouldn’t hesitate being a little rough with this case and worrying about it breaking. When it comes to Value/Price - When you compare that to the Pelican’s almost $200 price, this is almost half of the cost.As for Cons - The only con that I don’t like is that it only comes with the pull apart foam. I really like how Pelican offer theirs with padded dividers and you can also attach the trekpak to the top part of their case. The Apache only comes with pluck and pull at the moment. In Comparison - to the Pelican case: The latches are a bit different. I like the latches on the pelican case slightly better - they have like a 2 step design that makes them latch a little harder. Also, the Pelican has an automatic pressure valve whereas the Apache is manual. Other than that, the only other difference is the look on the outside.A couple Notes - I believe the dimensions are slightly different between the two cases. I think the Apache is slightly bigger. So look at the specs online and compare if you are trying to tightly fit some gear.ConclusionWell there you have it. This case is about 95% as good as a Pelican case but at almost 1/3rd the price, you can’t beat that. I highly recommend these cases. They are offered in a variety of sizes, both bigger and smaller than the 5800 series.
