SkylinkHome TD-318 Home Control Wireless LCD Deluxe Remote Transmitter with Scene & Timer setting feature

I have been a home automation fan for years, and had much X-10 stuff. Moving into a hundred year old house, I found the X-10 unreliable, so I wanted to upgrade. I did some research, and decided to try out the inexpensive SkylinkHome products.Across the board, the pairing is a huge pain. You need to have all of the devices and all of the remotes together with you so that you can press each remote to configure, then press each device to pair - and repeat with all devices and controllers.Then, you run in to problems, because each device can only be paired so many times before you have to reset it and start over.In particular, the Computer remote SkyLinkHome (which in theory is cool) is annoying, because you have to pair it twice - once as a "remote" and again as the system controller. They are completely separate.But this remote takes the cake. I'm a computer engineer, and have seen many examples of BAD user interfaces (things to not do). This is THE SINGLE WORST User Interface experience I've ever had. There is no chance of figuring it out on your own (self discovery). You have to use the manual. To set the timer, you hit the "Prog" button. To program when which device turns on or off, you hit the "Timer" button. There are separate timer events for "On" and "Off". There are two big buttons - "F" and "0/1" that aren't even used in programming it.Why would you have a timer even that turned something on, that you wouldn't also want to turn it off? Why can't this be ONE event with a turn on and turn off time?Also, as a clock, it should allow for 12 hour (am/pm) or 24 hour display, and should deal with Daylight Savings time. Further, it would be simple to put in a sunlight estimation routine based on putting in a city code so that it could turn on at dusk and off at dawn.As a 9 device remote, it's expensive but ok. As a timer, it's terrible.

It does work but I have been re-program many complicated steps every this it runs out of the battery. I had to re purchase after it loses some functions like timer button stop working or the dimmer not dimming. I do like the product but it needs to last longer and it should not loose settings once it has been programed.

This thing works well until the battery corrodes inside (just need to keep on top of this issue and it will probably last awhile). As previously noted the user interface and instructions require hours to decipher...I ended up writing each detailed step on a piece of paper for future reference so I wouldn't need to re-translate the instructions.

Good price, very difficult to program, instructions are not very well written.

Terrific device!!! I've used it all over the house and it works perfectly as advertised. Exceeds my expectations.

Although this transmitter has the added feature of scene control, the fact remains that the PL/MD 318 receivers are limited to only 8 operations. So you can never really tap into this remote's full potential, seeing that it's at the ''mercy'' of the receiver's memory limits...EDIT: Ended up returning it for a refund, since it's extremely limited capabilities (due to poor receiver capacity) became frustrating. I lowered my rating from three to two stars because Skylink DOESN'T mention it's receiver limits in any of their product descriptions.If you found this review helpful, please select yes below.

Super easy to program but you may need two people for some receivers unless you’re fast with the remote. Good range. Stylish. Nice and small.

timer function does not work, support for products are nonexistant.

Very cool item. Luv gadgets and the skylink products are on my luv list.
