Great release of "As Safe As Yesterday Is" and "Town And Country"!
"The Immediate Anthology-Natural Born Bugie", (2000).The Band consisted of :Steve Marriott June 30,1947 - April 20,1991 guitars, vocalsPeter Frampton April 22,1950 guitar, keyboards and vocalsGreg Ridley October 23, 1947 - November 19,2003 bassJerry Shirley February 4,1952 drumsMarriott from the Small Faces, Frampton from The Herd, Ridley from Spooky Tooth and Shirley from Apostolic Intervention, their single "Tell Me,Have You Ever Seen Me)", which would be covered by the Small Faces, Jerry would also join the hard rock band Fastway in 1982.The album starts off with their single "Natural Born Bugie", which hit #4 in the U.K., great blues-rock number, too bad America never gave this one spin, classic rock radio of today have missed out on some great tracks from the 60's and 70's. The b-side is "Wrist Job, I think you know what this means?! excellent rockin' number.Their first album "As Safe As Yesterday Is", is pure magic, sounding like vintage Small Faces, but with more blues and country-boogie influences with slight psychedelia."Desperation", great opener blues rock deluxe!"Stick Shift", another roaring number."Buttermilk Boy", Just can't beat this tune, Marriott at his wittiest."Growing Closer", Ian McLagen number, get's a nice treatment, good flute on this track. The title track is an excellent piece written by Marriott and Frampton, some tasty guitar on this one.Frampton's eastern take on "I'll Go Alone", a nice sitar-bongo tune, with some mellow flute, turns into a fine rocker. The Band influenced "Alabama "69".Marriott's "A Niffty Little Number Like You", is an all out rocker."What You Will", a strutting instrumental with some fantastic bass and drum work by Ridley and Shirley."Take Me Back", a good pop-rocker by Frampton. (Sounds like his early solo stuff)."The Sad Bag Of Shaky Jake", a classic country rocker, great lyrics!"Every Mother's Son", blues number perfection, the guitar by Marriott is (A #1)."Heartbeat", A song originally done by Buddy Holly, they do a bang up job on this one, 10 years later done by The Knack on "Get The Knack"."Frampton's "Only You Can See", another Frampton number that would resemble his solo years."Silver Tongue", very late Small Faces sounding, Steve gave this the rockin' treatment."Home and Away", written by Frampton and Ridley, acoustic laced tune, excellent riffage at the end, should of been played to death on radio! The bonus tracks consisted of,"I'll Drown In My Own Tears", great cover of the Ray Charles tune, very slow blues-based number, good brass sound, great treatment by Steve and Peter."79th Street Blues", excellent track, again with some crusty lyrics by Marriott."Hello Grass(No Regrets)", a spry electric shaker."Road to Ride", a folkish sounding tune, with more beautiful flute. The demo of "The Sad Bag of Shaky Jake", had more fiddle on this one.And the great acoustic rendition of The Yardbirds chestnut "For Your Love", 8:38 version, know idea why radio shy's away from playing this version.I think a lot of Humble Pie fans and people that enjoy late 60's and early 70's rock music, should get a copy of these recordings.

This is a great addition to any Rock & Roll library!!!
This is a awesome deal just for the previously unreleased tracks alone not to mention getting the album's " Safe as Yesterday" & " Town & Country" as well as a single release not available on albums!!! The sound is great & it sounds like all of the tracks are in stereo. At least the single & all the tracks from the two albums for sure. I am listening to it as I write this review & I did get up to let the dog out during a previously unreleased track so I am not 100% about all the songs being in stereo. They do all sound crisp & clear as though the greatest of care was taken in making this product. I wish other labels that had " Humble Pie " under contract would add little gems to the rerelease of all of there album's it would be great to have the studio version of " I Don't need No Doctor" as a bonus track. Lets face it us old timers have bought this music on Vinyl, 8- Track, Cassettes & now C.D., I think we have earned a break!!! It would also be great for the youngsters who want to learn the roots of Rock & Roll. I envy the young ones who are just now discovering bands like " Humble Pie"...for me its like seeing a old friend & for them it must be like meeting a new friend. I have to say these recordings do sound great!!! I haven't read anything about these tracks being remastered but from the sound of them I would have to guess they have been, & with much love at that! I say this because they are not just louder like on so many poor remastering jobs but extremely clear I can hear the low registers just as well as the high end stuff, nothing missing here or to hear!!! Well since writing this review I have had time to read the liner notes in the fold out front cover page. Apparently they searched but could not find the studio recording of " I don't need No Doctor". That great Ray Charles cover by Humble Pie is entering the realms of the stuff of myth & legend!!! Hopefully some day it will resurface in good enough condition to remaster it. And yes work was done remastering with the help of former Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley.

A Nice Anthology of the First Two Albums
I was a Small Faces fan when they dissolved and Steve Marriott helped form Humble Pie. Their first album, As Safe As Yesterday Is, is here and it's my personal favorite. It's still has a lot of "Small Faces" style to it and Peter Frampton delivers some splendid lead work. There are a bunch of cuts here that were never released in America. A couple are great but the balance of them are quite forgettable.

Wish I had seen this one *before* I bought the remastered editions of As Safe As Yesterday Is and Town and Country. A fantastic set at a very good price.Love the 'Pie !!
