I have medium thickness, long hair and it holds well. When I got it, the clasp would not open, but I had another barrette and could see what was wrong with this one. I used pliers and squeezed the clasp a little closer and it works perfectly. I took off one star, because quality control should have caught that.

They come packaged in a small, pull-close (re-useable) bags, like a piece of jewelry and that is what it feels like you are getting - jewelry for your hair.After more than half a century of long hair, I really feel for the women who would like to clasp it to their ponytail and have it stay. The problem is: hair is slippery by nature, the polished steel closure on this clip is smooth and slippery by nature - add to that motion + gravity and it is inevitable that the barrette will slip. You’ve got to put some sort of resistance in the equation to make it work! I’ve tried elastic-banding my ponytail loosely and putting the clip over that, or braiding two twists and clipping onto that, with fair success. Two or three dots of sticky silicon adhered to the clip itself, would give it the needed resistance needed to make it stay put - at least for the ponytail-hang solution.

This is a beautiful, sturdy, well-made and good quality barrette that easily holds my long hair up. The catch is easy to release, when you're ready to take the barrette out.

This item arrived broken, the decorative piece isn't attached at one end, so the length of time that will last is questionable. I have ordered this item before and the first one was fine. Apparently I didn't realize this item was not returnable and so I am out the $ for a hairclip that was supposed to be of a better quality. Buyer beware.

Nice quality. Holds thick hair.

Solid clip, holds my thick hair up and back from my face. It’s attractive as well. I ordered 2, the oblong 3.5” clip and the long & thin 4” clip and love them both! They are a bit unique looking and “make” a nice statement.As an older woman I feel that they are not girlish looking which was the look I was after.

This item is elegant, of excellent quality and workmanship. I am very happy with this purchase.
