It's All Greek to Me: Transform Your Health the Mediterranean Way with My Family's Century-Old Recipes

A Greek Cookbook You Can Actually Use
I am Greek American and we all cook out of the church cookbooks, which contain recipes from all of the yia yias in the cathedral. The problem is these cookbooks don't contain accurate instructions or exact amounts for recipes (i.e. a container of cottage cheese vs. 8 ounces of cottage cheese). Debbie's book contains exact measurements so you cannot fail and easy instructions for any level of cook. Furthermore, Debbie is not a chef, she is a home cook that learned in the kitchen with her mom, so her recipes are realistic and are not too complex (but still delicious, I have eaten a lot of spanakopita in my life and this recipe is stellar). The book contains beautiful photos and I enjoyed reading Debbie's little tidbits and suggestions as well, the book would make a great gift for anyone that enjoys greek cooking or wants to try something different. Of all of my greek cookbooks, this one is by far my favorite! (and if the Greeks recommend it, that says a lot)

I Highly - and Happily - Recommend This Book!
I am not Greek, but I LOVE Greek food. That is, as I have known Greek food here in the United States. I have never traveled to Greece either, so I bought Debbie's book to learn about authentic Greek food and how it is cooked so I can make it like that at home. I AM SO GLAD I DID. This book is such an enjoyable read! Debbie has shared her family's authentic Greek recipes with all of us. It's like going through her personal recipe box. The photos are colorful and meaningful. Her text and tips are educational and entertaining. So what about the recipes? DELISH! I've made seven so far and plan to try more recipes this week. I have learned that traditional Greek salad does not have lettuce in it. I've learned what a huge difference the brine-packed Greek feta makes in that salad! So different and so much better than the dry, crumbly stuff I had been buying before. To me, it was the star of the salad because it so perfectly balanced all of the flavors. But let me tell you something. Her "Perfect Herb-Roasted Chicken and Vegetables" is indeed PERFECT. That recipe alone is worth the price of the book. I am serious about that. It takes a bit of prep but is SO worth it. The chicken and vegetables are unbelievably flavorful, tender, moist and juicy. Then there is this wonderful sauce in the pan that will make you swoon. I declare, even the chicken must be deliriously happy to be cooked in such heavenly ingredients! If you grew up with southern dinners of roast beef and gravy and mashed potatoes as I did, but now you need a healthier alternative that is still a "special" meal, this roasted chicken recipe is the one you need. It is "whole food" cooking and the whole meal is in the one roasting pan. Nothing processed in it. Your family and guests will not be thinking about the health benefits, because they will be so distracted by the flavor exploding in their mouths. I hope Debbie reads this review. I would like to hug her neck - or the neck of whoever shared this recipe with her - for this amazing recipe. I would also like to hug her Aunt Aphrodite for her Beet and Apple Salad. Except for my husband's serving, I ate the whole thing! As a Greek food enthusiast, I could gush on and on. But I will close by saying that I highly recommend this book - primarily for the recipes, of course - and because it is such an enjoyable book to read. Thank you, Debbie Matenopoulos. I sincerely hope you have a second authentic Greek cookbook in the works. Please come to Nashville and sign some cookbooks. I would love the opportunity to thank you in person.

Great for cooks who are new to Greek cooking!
I had heard the term “Mediterranean Diet”, but always assumed it was just another fad diet, so when a friend recommended this book to me, I was skeptical. After browsing through it, I saw that it’s not really a “diet” (in the sense of severe restriction from certain foods), but a way of eating and preparing really tasty dishes from that part of the world, that also happen to be more heart healthy. So we gave it a try...We aren’t Greek, so this was new territory. And it was a fantastic introduction to Greek food and cooking. Everything is spelled out, so it’s very user-friendly. It not only serves as a cookbook, but as a reference book as well. In addition to the great recipes, I thought the photography and brief stories gave the book bit of personality. Our first favorites are the beet salad (great on a hot summer day), the herb-roasted chicken and vegetables (when friends are coming over… it fills the house with the best aroma) and of course, the Revani (yep, I found a cake recipe). And we still have over 100 recipes to go!

Disappointing
Very disappointing!! I order a cookbook hoping to get one or two good recopies, and some pictures of the same .. NOT with this book .. you get tons of pictures of the author, I don't care about that stuff! Also most of the recipes are of stuff I don't want to eat lol So wasted my money all around .. BUT it is a well made book ;)

Every recipe is authentic - worth getting!
I am 100% Greek American.Grew up with my grandmother's recipes and learned to not to fear making any recipe.Debbie Matenopoulos has hit the ball out of the park!!!!Great recipes my family has made and within village to village there may be a few variations of ingredients --but these are excellent, doable authentic Greek recipes the home cook could make and take the bows!My own minus--the lamb is shown too rare--a lot of Greeks are more well in the meat dept. The fish, the appetizers, the moussaka, pastitso, as well as the sweets are close to ours-only where she uses walnuts, we use almonds. Just a village to village thing--And this is one of the best Greek Cookbooks I've seen and will use.Simply explained and the average cook could easily create Greek night at home!!!!Bravo Debbie!!! Yiassou!!Ellen George, reviewer and author of poetry, short stories, and children's book Flutterby.Book of fiction in the works!!

Brilliant book with amazing simple to follow recipe's.
The book is brilliant! I’ve been cooking from it non-stop! However, the copy I received was used. It had food stains at the back of the book and on some of the pages. I wasn’t very impressed with that.

good book but incredibly difficult to use on kindle
I started to read this & found it good, but there is no Table of Contents enabled on the kindle edition which makes it (like most cookbooks) incredibly difficult to use.The recipes looked appealing.
