Is this 3 pieces 3 yards long each for a total of 9 yards

I have purchased this item a total of 4 times now... and each time I received 3 pieces that are EACH 3 yards long for a TOTAL of 9 yards (324 inches) in each order. I hope this helps because the listing IS a bit confusing or hard to understand exactly what you are getting... I hope this clears it up!!

Would you use this to applique a lot of pieces up to 4 1/2", then hand-quilt them? Would this be enough?

It's a nice mount, you would get a lot of 4 1/2" squares out of it.

Is this suitable as a diffuser for a DIY lightbox in photography?

I'm sorry, but I really could not tell you. I sew......I don't do photography. I will tell you that this fusible polyester came very wrinkled and, since it is fusible, I couldn't iron it flat. I would suggest going to a fabric store like Joann's and asking to see the interfacings. This way you can buy the weight, the thickness and the product that will help you with your project.

Is this fusible on both sides?

It is fusible on one side only.
