Finally, A Set Of Phones That I Can Block Spam Calls
The VTech handsets were ordered for use with our landline.Since we have a security system that operates from cell phones and landlines, we ordered a new set of handsets and base. This set has so many features that it would take a book to review every feature. This particular system came with a base & 5 handsets. However, it is also expandable up to 12 handsets. The first and primary feature that I like is that I can block phone calls very similar to the way calls are blocked on my cell phone. If I am on a call, and it is from spam call, the "block" button can be pressed and added to the block list. Also, I can manually add numbers to the block list by entering the number and name on the call. The second feature that I like is that I can pair up to 2 cell phones (or 1 cell phone and a bluetooth headset) to the base. There is also a headset jack in case a person wants to use that type of ear phones rather than bluetooth. If a call is received on my cell phone and it is in within about 20 feet of the base, the call can be answered on one of the handsets. Similarly, a phone call can be made from the hand set as if it were my cell phone. In addition, I can block calls on the base that come in on the handsets by pressing the block button while the call is still in the process. The sound of the caller coming through the handsets and the speaker phone is very good quality, and the volume can be raised or lowered dependent upon the needs of the person using the handset. To date, we have not had any issues with regard to the sound quality or volume of the sounds coming through the system.Another feature that I like and use is that the contacts on my cell phone and my wife's cell phone can be downloaded onto the base for use on all handsets. There is also an "allow" call list that must be manually entered into the handsets, so that the numbers we want to come through without being rejected by the VTech system. Once a number & name is entered into this database, the call will come through. If the number is not in the list, the caller will receive a message asking them to press the "#" in order for their call to be received by us. There are other options available that allow for various levels of security, again, based upon the needs of the person who has the system.Like most phone systems, a person can add a message for those wanting to leave as voice mail. The phone holds up to 22 minutes of messages, and that should be sufficient for our use.Another feature that I really like is that a handset can be used a very long range from the base. According to the product description, the handset can be used "up to 2300 feet" from the base. The distance would be dependent on the structure of the house, the walls, and probably the terrain in the 2300 feet. 0That's almost 1/2 mile. I have not tested this as yet, but my mailbox is about 1/4 from the house, so I will find out whether that works for me or not. Frankly, whether it does is not an issue, since the handset would not normally be used more than 100 feet from the house when I working in the yard or garden. Finally, the base has a screen that is 3.5 inches long and about 1.5 inches tall. The handsets have a 2 inch screen. Also, the lettering on the screens, especially the base, is large, very large. Seniors and individuals who are somewhat nearsighted should not have major issues seeing the screens. As one who is in both categories, the screens are very readable for me.BOTTOM LINE: This is one great phone system. It replaces a Panasonic system that I had for many years that also had 5 handsets, but did not have as many features. The pricing for this system is very competitive, and we are thoroughly satisfied with it. It also comes in versions with 3 and 4 handsets. I would order the VTech phone system again, and will probably order 2 - 3 more handsets for the apartment in our 1st floor basement.

Excellent phone for problematic situations (long distances, interference, visual or auditory issues)
I'm not a sophisticated user of this tech. I use a VOIP line for a home phone and connect the base unit using a standard telephone cord. I'll probably never use many of the features, so I can't address them in this review. The good: Easy setup for basic use; Wizards for things like the call blocker. Excellent connections between handsets across the approximately 30m x 30m (100' x 100') covered by my floorplan, even while passing through concrete walls with wire mesh within (think incomplete Faraday cage). Display is very easy to read, with large type and backlighting when in use. Voice connections are dependable and plenty loud enough. Should be a good phone for those with visual or auditory issues. The bad: First, the clock has twice moved its time forward an hour. It seems to have stopped doing so when I turned off the option to update it based on Caller-ID (or something of the sort: idr exactly).Second, one of the main reasons to use a multi-handset system like this is for the room-to-room intercom system. This has two. The PTT (Push To Talk) walkie-talkie style one works great and takes a couple of button-presses to activate (Hit PTT, scroll to the desired extension, hit Select). But for some reason, the Intercom function (standard phone-type conversation rather than walkie-talkie style) requires either 6 button-presses (before you even get to select an extension) if you go thru the menu, or 3 if you start with the Flash button. This is why this review is 4 stars rather than 5. Seems like bad design for something so basic. All in all, a solid product for basic phone use. Has lots of bells and whistles if you want or need them.

Awesome landline phone system with features you never knew you needed until you have them!
I love this phone, wow such amazing features, most I didn't realize I was missing until I bought this system. I honestly didn't need 5 phones, but for the extra $10 figured I would keep one as a spare, since spare phones cost way more than $10.For the price of the phone, it was indeed a value. I wanted a phone system with long range capability and this was the only phone offered through Amazon with this feature. I tried to talk myself out of it and literally spent 3 days looking at phones, features, reviews and price, before I chose this phone. It honestly shouldn't have been a question of buying it, but if I have learned nothing from my employer, it's to do your due diligence when making a significant purchase. To be honest, I am loving the call screening!! The amount of phone calls coming into my house phone has been reduced by at least 80-90%, and that is no exaggeration. Also, once you have received a call and added them to your approved list, they never have to leave their name again, it just rings them right through. But, don't make the mistake I did when I first started, I was immediately pressing "1", and this only allows that one call, not any future calls, you must press "2", to approve that caller indefinitely. I was being too quick with my selection and didn't finish listening to the options, and only found my mistake when I couldn't quickly press "1" and heard option "2" was the option I really wanted.Another feature I didn't know I needed, was importing my cell phone address book directly into the phone!! Wow what a time saver, unfortunately it doesn't sync with the screening, but that is just a minor detail. Being able to answer my cell phone through the phone was another added surprise as well, and you can even add a second cell phone!! WOW, mind blown. The phones also came with a belt clip which was yet another feature that doesn't come standard with many or any other phones that I researched. This was yet another feature I didn't know I was missing out on, but I am loving that each phone has a belt clip.A reason I was wanting a long range phone is that my house was built in the 1950's, when houses were actually built solid, almost a little too solid, lol. It is very hard to get reception in my bedroom, which is the furthest from the base unit, but with this phone I can hear and be heard even out in my front yard on the parkway!! Thank you Vtech for making this awesome phone. Living in a stucco house is like living in a faraday cage when it comes to cell phones or wireless anything, well in my house anyway, it had become so frustrating with my old phone that I was beyond done, but this phone is AMAZING!!I am sure I sound like a cuckoo when it comes to the amazing features offered on this phone, and my old phone was maybe 5-7 years old, at most, but Bluetooth, call screening, cell phone address book access, etc. wasn't something offered back then and if it was I guess I didn't want to pay the extra for it. I am not the most tech savvy person by any means, but this phone is so easy to use it made me feel like a rock star. So, if you have read this far through my review, what are you waiting for? Buy this phone and prepare to be blown away!! I was not paid to write this review, I paid about $160-190 for this system and it is worth every penny and more.
