Leaves you thinking
Although the start was somewhat slow keep reading the book will not disappoint. I was surprised that Robin Cook wasn't writing about an HMO 😂 however this book was full off intrigue and suspense as anything else thar he has ever written. I think the best thing about this book is he combins two of the most talked about subjects medical practices and religion. I think if you are interested in alternative medicine you will like this book, if you are interested in church history you just might find this peeks your interests. Btw it is not a long read at all enjoy.

Jack and Laurie, a more Spiritual adventure
I have been a Robin Cook fan for decades and probably have read all his books. So, I was very taken aback by the low ratings and sour reviews given this book by many. I almost passed it by, but am so glad I went ahead and downloaded it to my Kindle instead. I loved the book! Jack and Laurie are in the midst of sadness and concern, dealing with their terminally ill baby, while in a separate story to be joined later an archeologist and his DNA expert wife are involved in a plot to steal from under Saint Peters Basilica in Rome an ossuary reportedly containing the bones of the Virgin Mary. How all this comes together, incorporating also the Archbishop of New York, an arson, and elements of both Faith and advanced medicine is to me a fascinating story well worth the read. I realize that some familiarization with Catholic theology would be helpful in understanding the seriousness of what occurred. Also it might have helped to have read Cook's other archeological novel, the Sphinx, and to be fans of the continuing story of Jack and Laurie (long may they entertain). But, in general, it is hard for me to understand the severe criticism of some reviewers. For me, it was a very good read - I highly recommend the book. Oh yeah, what happened to the baby? - Just wait and see!

In God we trust
Anybody who enjoys reading biblical history combined with biblical mystery will love this book. Jack Staplelton finds himself enlisted by an old college buddy to assist in researching the contents of an ancient osowary (an ancient burial jar), secreted out of St. Peters cathedral at the Vatican in Rome. The contents of the burial jar could rattle the rafters of christianity. A third college buddy who happens to be the Cardinal Arch Bishop of New York is drawn into this mystery and attempts to stifle the investigation of the ancient burial jar. Jacks involvment is complicated by having to deal with his new born son, JJ, who has a potentially deadly cancer. This book is a real thriller with a wholly unpredictable ending.

Interesting and different
A little different from Cook's other books but, nonetheless just as good. It was difficult to foresee where this book was heading and how it would have a successful outcome, but it did!

Ed Dasso, MD comments
Both as the author of Past Aghast and a physician, I didn't find the storyline untenable at all. It may not be Cook at his best but he does manage to weave a reasonable story, blending the potentially disparate territories of medicine and religion. I found the story plausible and unpredictable enough as to actually create some suspense. I don't consider alternative medicine "dubious" in the least but, this is a work of fiction and, though the relation between alternative medicine and ancient religion may be a stretch, it is pulled together into a readable story. I liked the characters and enjoyed the story.

Overall I liked it and appreciated that I wasn't really sure where ...
The main pro is that it *is* different than other Jack Stapleton/Laurie Montgomery books. Laurie takes a back seat in this one, and honestly so does Jack. He doesn't really get himself into nearly as much trouble as he usually does.Nonetheless all the favorites make appearances; including Chet the co-worker, Vinnie the co-worker, Lou the detective, and Warren his street b-ball buddy. The con is that the dialogue is so damn official in parts it's unrealistic.Overall I liked it and appreciated that I wasn't really sure where it was going.SPOILER ALERT for the regular Robin Cook readers -- there are no hitmen in this one!!

Not Your Mothers Cook Book
As usual, Cook's Jack Stapleton and Laurie Montgomery are presented with a number of interesting challenges which they manage to overcome. The origin of the challenges is a little different than usual in that the main focus is not the usual medical one.The only criticism is that the climax to the story was foreseeable and somewhat formulaic.Regardless, I would still recommend this book to others.

Always good
Robin Cook is one author I unhesitantly buy. I can always know I will be entertained and can easily read it in two or three sittings. This book was another good one, not up to perhaps some of the earlier ones but still highly entertaining. I had no idea there was so much controvery re: chiropratic scenarios. I found that quite fascinating and can tell you I won't be going to one of those anytime soon!

Can alternative medicine be dangerous?
In this story, Dr Jack Stapleton critiques alternative medicine and faith healing as a distraction and finds himself a mediator between biblical archaeology and the Catholic Church.(Spoiler alert!) Newborn JJ has a dreadful disease and Jack finds that he cannot deal with it. An enthralling tale I could not put down! Again, thanks Robin!

。There was something mystical about the ossuray, and he wanted to take advantage of it.Now that the faith healing was actually being attempted, however, he felt silly, like he was grasping for straws. Well, he was grasping for straws.

Robin Cook at his absolute Best
I love Robin Cook's Medical Thrillers and this appears to be his best yet. A slightly different perspective from his usual books which slate the Health Insurance industry of the US. Looking forward to finishing it Couldn't stop reading once I began last night but had to finally discipline myself and get some sleep!
