500GB Portable Backup Solution (ND2901)

As a professional wedding photographer who does high volumes of weddings shot on RAW format, this image tank has been a blessing. Instead of spending an hour or longer downloading cards after a shoot, I can download them as they fill up during free moments during a shoot. This image tank is highly convenient and fast, and the ability to copy and verify files as they are being transferred gives me peace of mind. Cards can corrupt, or you can lose a card on a shoot. Having a backup before you even leave the venue can serve as extra insurance that your data is safe. This is NOT a safe excuse to reformat your cards before verifying that all the data is present; this image tank does not allow you to view photos from the device. While I am extremely pleased with this device, I am looking forward to something similar that has an SSD, easily replaceable battery, and a better joystick/selection interface.

Finally nextodi has released an image tank that supports fast copy of SD card (3 times faster that on previous models)I'm also very happy that they are now supporting USB3 for very fast download to the PC. According to specs battery life should also be much better, partially due to faster copy times. These improvements make it definitively worth upgrading from Nd2700 or ND2730! There's onA small point on the down side which is the power supply which does not fit into Swiss outlets....and the alternative requires using an UBS3 cable which is not convenient to take with you when traveling.....a simple microUSB plug for chairing instead of the proprietary one would have been the better und more universal solution. I've now ordered a UBS3 to microUSB adaptor to overcome this....Update: I have received the adaptor ( HDL Micro USB Female to Micro USB3.0 Male Adapter for Samsung Galaxy Note3 III N9000 ) now and it perfectly does the job!Update2: I've been able to copy 200GB of data from SD cards with one battery charge (fast copy, no verify)

It was very easy to back up my photos but it would not mount on my iMac. Sadly had to return it.

This thing is great. 500GB of storage in a compact portable hard disk with every card slot you need. The menu system is simple and understandable, and file transfers are FAST. The preview display of images is pretty low-res and only useful as rough thumbnails of what is stored on the drive, but that's not what I bought this for. The main thing is having pretty much unlimited shooting freedom (for my purposes, anyway, as I've yet to fill up 500GB on a single outing or vacation). Much better than carrying around a whole bunch of cards.

Very easy to use. Works as advertised. Like being able to back up my memory cards until I can get to my pc. The preview feature could be better.

Returned because something was loose inside the case. I couldn't open the case up to check it out because unlike the photographs here, it has big "Warranty Void If Removed" stickers on both sides of the case along the seams. That may be an issue if you want to try and replace the existing disk with an SSD etc.Update:I contacted them and they said since there was a rattling inside they would replace the unit or I could open it and check myself and that would not void the warranty. I opened it and it was a piece of material between the mainboard and the drive that is not secured in place, I did believe it would cause an issues in the future, so I kept that unit.
