PERFECT book
It explains everything. Its not just a book of chords etc.. It has sections that progress with detailed explanations of each section. I love it as an adult getting back to playing after many years. I can still read music but there are so many things that you just forget with time. I have bought several highly praised scale books but this one is the best BY FAR!!! I'm so glad I bought this book.

Priceless Reference.
This is a wonderful reference that I keep by my piano at all times. This is one of many of Jerald Simon's books I own. If a teacher is judged by how well he helps you understand the material, Jerald Simon is a musical genius.

The binding makes it very difficult to stay open on the piano.
The book is full of valuable information. However, the book will not remain open while playing. Otherwise, it has the needed information I have been looking for.

Great intermediate piano book.
I have been looking for a good method piano book. This book has exercises for every key. It has goals to accomplish at every level playing piano, and this series is actually very informative for piano playing. I am intermediate playing piano and anticipate this book will be studied and practiced for a long time. The left hand patterns in this same series is also a must have.

Enlightening notation to musical success!
I love this book! It’s unique as it includes not only scales, chords, and exercises, but also chord progressions for each key signature. The fun cool songs at the back of the book is a little taste of Gerald Simons Cool Song Series that he composed. Now I want to buy all of his books!

Probably Every Exercise for Every Genre
If you need to challenge your fingers to move faster, develop an intuitive feel for a piece's key, or just exercise your 7th's, then this book is for you. It helped me quite a bit. That said, the paper seems a bit cheap and my guess is that there was an attempt to keep the price down on this 283 page manual...I wound up copying the pages which I needed and then putting those copies on the music desk rather than risk ripping or otherwise damaging the original. Finally, if "Essential Exercises" looks a little too daunting, then there is another book which better explains the music theory behind the notes and offers more concise exercises, and that is Ferrante's "Piano Scales Chords Arpeggios Lessons". "Essential Exercises" is more of a massive encyclopedia of exercises while Ferrante's book is a well designed guide which provides basic through advanced skills needed to play well.
