If you like beautiful books...
If you like beautiful books then this illustrated edition of a Terry Pratchett classic should really catch your eye!I have loved this book since I first read it, a long time ago. Like all Discworld novels, it manages to both turn the world upside down, while also making sense of it, and all the while allowing you to laugh. Gaurds, Guards first introduced us to Vimes, Lady Ramkin, Carrot, Nobby, Colon, et al! Not to mention an indept exploration of the Patrician and his mind! The plot is hilarious, the characters are both comic and tragic. I always suspected Pratchett was guilty of "liteature" and this novel is sited as evidence to that case. This edition comes replete with beautiful illustrations, that unlike the recent TV series, remain true to the story in tone, style and content. For me, I could look at the drawings all day long, and still notice little touches that are both intelligent and creative. So, if you like beautiful books then this is a worthy addition to any collection.

No Dust-Wrapper...?
Guards! Guards! - The Paul Kidby illustrated edition. Great illustrations to a great Discworld story. BUT: Did the dragon on the front board of the book burn off the dust-wrapper - or was there never meant to be one (a dust-wrapper)? Even at the discounted Amazon price, I would have expected a DW (got bored typing dust-wrapper...). Other than the lack of a DW, I would highly recommend this edition & say it is a thoroughly worthwhile addition to Sir Terry's wonderful series of stories. If there should have been a DW with this book, I'd be greatly obliged if Amazon would send it on to me, please, ta.

Poor quality and not worth the money
really poor quality, the slipcase was dented and damaged, but even without the damage, the slipcase is rubbish, the outer layer is soo thin that you can see all the folds and construct of the slipcase. The book was okay, but too few illustrations. Wouldn't even be worth it at 50% off.really, this is just a money grab, don't waste your time.

Not worth the money
This isn't a review of the novel. The story remains as excellent as it ever. Alas, this special edition is just not worth the high RRP. It's a standard hardback sized volume with standard paper with a few illustrations every so often. I was hoping for something special but it fails to deliver. Compare this to the excellent Illustrated Wee Free Men that was published several years ago.I'm happy to buy special editions but this just feels like fan exploitation, especially considering the RRP is £25.00.

Cheap binding for the price, looks like a publisher's remainder
I love all things Discworld, but this was a bit disappointing. Aside from the obvious damage pictured above, I expected cloth binding with a jacket for this price. The illustrations are nice, but not numerous. I would probably keep it if not for the damage. The rating does not reflect the damage, just the quality of the book.

S'truth!
A wonderful edition of a fantastic story. I've always found it wonderful how Terry Pratchett took elements of classic fantasy and made a story that both incorporates those elements and makes something wholly unique. Worth a place in any library, even those whose librarians don't say 'Ook!'
