Great Beard shampoo
Great beard shampoo but the pump didn’t work even after removing and cleaning it out/replacing the tube

Damaged item
One of my items were deliver damaged. As you can see there is no topper to the bottle, this was not found in the box either therefore it was packaged without one. Resulting in the contents spilling out.

Shampoo
The shampoo was a dark black liquid when squirted out, needed a little more then I though but lathered up nicely and washed out okay, couldn't really tell if there was a scent to it but my hair felt nice after it had been washed and dried. Expensive for the size of bottle but comes in nice packaging.

Different for sure
They say the best things come in small packages. This is smaller than expected, and a heck of a lot darker too. The bottle contains 300ml of the darkest shampoo I've ever seen. It's kind of like car engine oil. Fortunately, once lathered into the scalp, the black is magically replaced by white and all seems normal. Then there's the smell, which is again very different from anything I've experienced before. It's a nice smell, though, hard to describe but the clues are in the contents. These include grapefruit, orange, juniper berry. lavender, lemon and radish root, along with a long list of chemicals including sodium chloride and sodium coco-sulfate.The apothecary is a slightly archaic and even mystical forebear to what we know today as the pharmacist, while the 'botanical' means it's any one or all of herbal, herbaceous, floral, plant-sourced, biological, agricultural, arboreal, horticultural, paleobotanical, vegetable and phytologic. So that clears that up.Yes, the black liquid was a bit of a shock but it was all good after that. After my hair was dry, it did look different - fuller and thicker, which is most welcome. At nearly twenty quid this must be special and the very least I can say is that it's different. I'll be using it regularly, despite it competing with about a dozen other brands, some of which are almost as pricey as this. I've been liking Alpecin caffeine shampoo recently, which feels more authentic but that could be the relentless marketing making me think that. I've never seen an advert for Apothecary 87 but it's at least a match for the likes of Alpecin, Head & Shoulders and L'Oreal. It definitely has its own identity and there's not much chance of you mistaking it for anything else.Quite simply: I like it.

Left my hair squeaky clean, but rather expensive.
With the price of nearly £18 for a 300ml bottle of shampoo I am inclined to leave it on the bathroom shelf to impress visitors! The shampoo is an oddly clear but very dark liquid. I found that it lathered quite easily, but I actually needed more than I thought I would to get enough lather on my fine shoulder length hair. The smell is quite special, it felt like there was some astringent (maybe eucalyptus, rosemary or similar) and certainly some herbs in it, but I expect that this was to be expected with a name of Botanical. The bottle is plastic, which I appreciate as it will not break if dropped on a tiled bathroom floor and uses a pump action dispenser.I did find that it left my hair squeaky clean and it obviously got rid of any impurities, but I certainly needed to put a conditioner on after shampooing. It is manufactured in the UK and is vegan friendly, but other than that I cannot find much more to recommend it. In my opinion it is too expensive for an okay shampoo.

Lovely smelling, lovely hair - expensive price
This black shampoo smells fantastic, lathers and rinses well and leaves my hair in amazing condition and comes in a very attractive bottle with pump action dispenser which looks great in the bathroom. However, the price which is currently £19 for 300ml is extrotionate and unless the price comes down I wouldnt recommend it. At £10 this would still be an expensive product but I think one I would be prepared for but more than that its a no.

lather up well, fruity scent
It's quite interesting that the colour of this shampoo is completely black. I have a charcoal face wash which is completely black and I thought this shampoo also contained charcoal. However, The ingredients include natual oils extracted from grapefruit peel, orange peel, juniper berry, lavender and lemon peel so it has very pleasant fruity scent. This shampoo lathers up quite well. I previously tried another natural shampoo which didn't lather up and it was frustrating but in that sense this one didnt disappoint me. However, at £19.50 (at the time of review) for 300ml, it is very expensive.

Brilliant beard wash
This is a really effective beard wash, with good oil content to keep things shiny and hydrated. It doesn't need a great deal to get a lather up, so the bottle will last months assuming it's used a few times a week. The charcoal does a good job of the cleaning side, and there's a really nice liquorice-type scent. That said it doesn't impact on using a scented post-wash product on the beard. Overall this is on par with the best beard washes I've tried over the years (Lush Kalamazoo, Gnarly Joe's) and is certainly one I'll be getting again. This brand are knocking it out of the park for beard products.
