Quiet, effective, excellent customer service
After a lot of research we decided that an evaporative humidifier was best for our home. We had tried an ultrasonic and, while it was effective at humidifying the space, the white dust it produced was an issue. The Smartmi offered five major benefits: 1) as quiet or nearly as quiet as an ultrasonic humidifier, 2) no need to continually purchase filters, 3) relatively easy cleaning, 4) self-regulating (virtually no chance of over-humidifying), and 5) no white dust. We do not live in an arid part of the country, but we have many cool winter days when our forced air heat will drop our relative humidity into the low 30% range. The Smartmi humidifier can quickly bring our humidity into the 40s and at times into the 50s. That's plenty for our needs. We're hopeful that it will perform as well during our drier summer months. The unit is quiet. At its lowest speed its nearly inaudible. At its highest speed, its not uncomfortably loud. We primarily use it in the bedroom and usually initially turn it on high for a quick 5 - 8% humidity increase, then put it on automatic for the rest of the night. Controls on the machine are easy. The app is simple but does offer some useful settings. You can turn off the alert sounds, control the speed, and dim the lights. The only negative is that the app consistently shows a humidity as much as 10% higher than our humidistat. I believe the humidistat, not the app. Cleaning: we're lucky in that we have very clean, not heavily mineralized water. We wipe the humidifier at least weekly. Every 3 - 4 weeks I've removed the discs and cleaned them, but I've yet to see any buildups of mold, calcification, or other material. It's not difficult to do - takes about 20 minutes. Just treat the disks gently. Customer service: we're on our second Smartmi humidifier. After several months of frequent (but not constant use) the first humidifier developed a very annoying ticking noise. The ticking was loud enough to wake us up and was present regardless of the fan speed. It was difficult to diagnose, but I believe it came from the motor that drives the gear that engages the rotating drum. I don't know for sure, but I did see one other owner had a similar issue. I contacted Smartmi Customer Service and within days a new humidifier was on its way. Before posting a review we waited a month to see if the new humidifier developed a similar issue (or other issues). So far, it has performed perfectly and we're hopeful that this will continue. And if problems should arise, our experience with Smatmi's excellent customer service gives us confidence. Their new self-cleaning version looks promising. One more thing: the product design is clean, modern, attractive, and discreet.

Well made, works well, easy to maintain and runs quietly. Excellent support from SmartMi
This is a well designed humidifier that works well, is easy to maintain and runs quietly.The evaporative design of this humidifier means it emits no steam/vapor/mineral dust into the air and doesn't add heat to the room like some do. The design is also such that it helps to clean dust & airborne particulates from the air as it runs.I live in a low humidity area and this unit keeps a 15'x15' room at around 45% humidity no problem. The unit uses about a gallon of water or so every 36 to 48 hrs to maintain that 45%. It works quite well, just sitting there quietly doing it job.Maintenance is very simple. There are no filters or other throw-away items required for routine maintenance. I have found that using plain tap water, a basic wash/rinse of the "bowl" and disc assembly once a week to keep it clean (I use a very soft, long bristled brush to wash the disc assembly). It takes just a couple of minutes to clean and it's back up and running again.I have had zero issues with mold/smells/etc.. I think good maintenance done frequently enough is the key to avoiding problems with smells/mold/etc..Also worthy of note is product support, which is excellent.I've had this humidifier for some time now and recently had an issue with the unit not starting up again after a refill and reached out to SmartMi support for help. I was promptly contacted by Rebecca from SmartMi customer support, who was very helpful and worked with me to get the issue squared away very quickly.I'm quite happy with this humidifier as well as the support I received from SmartMi.

Stopped working after 6 months
So I am editing my review:1/4/21- The humidifier has stopped working. It is full but now tells me that there is insufficient water in the tank and shuts off. I can’t get a hold of anyone via the help section in the app. We’ve had it less than a year and it’s already not working. I’m really bummed.I am so pleased with this humidifier. We had been using cool mist humidifiers in my kids rooms and I was over the white dust getting all over everything constantly. I decided to give this one a try and I’m glad I did. The app is super easy to use and I love the childproofing feature that allows you to control the device only from the app (It keeps my 3 year old from messing with it). The app also provides a readout for room temperature, room humidity, and remaining water. It’s also incredibly easy to clean and has given me an hour a week back because I don’t have to try to scrub nastiness out of weird crevices like the cool mist humidifiers I’ve had before. And the best part? No more white mineral dust.
