Effective, perfect size, tough, well designed
Good bite, drilled through hard packed Georgia Clay Both wet and dry… A few smaller Tree roots also… It is Longer than many that you find so I could dig deep to sink Fence post stakes.. well shaped tip to get the hole started and you have to be careful and hold the drill with both hands because it will spin the drill and hurt your wrist. i had no problems drilling the 30 holes that I needed about 2 feet deep. Definitely made things easier, I would recommend if you're doing deeper holes to drill in a little bit and then pull the bit out of the ground as it's going to pull the dirt up out and keep doing that instead of trying to go all the way down. all the loose dirt can Bog it down. I would definitely recommend. Especially at the price! Very good value for the money and after digging those holes, I don't notice even any dings in the edges so it seems to be pretty tough.

As described...works great for digging holes for my Gopher Hawk...
Fast shipping, great packaging. So now, instead of spending a lot of time with my shovel and then on my hands and knees, I use this. Not only makes a great size hole, it takes out most of the dirt as well. It's one of those "Why didn't I think of this sooner" items. Highly recommended.

Seems to work, saves time
This work well for planting bulbs etc. I will helps loosen the ground. However with very hard clay soil you want to make sure you drill is powerful enough to drive it, dampen the soil as well . I only have a small cordless drill but it still does ok.

Digs aggressively but with limited ability to get soil out of the hole
I used this device to make holes for the legs of garden trellises. I found that it can dig a hole approximately 1.6" wide to a maximum depth of about 14.5" in moist, rock-free soil. It can dig such holes very quickly. However, I have not tried it in dry, hardened soil and I also doubt that it could cope with stones in its path bigger than, maybe, 1/2" diameter and not too numerous. My reservation is that the flutes extend from the bottom of the auger up only 5.5", meaning that the device can only raise the soil it is digging up 5.5". This is a real problem if you are trying to dig a hole deeper than 5.5". I tried lifting the drill and auger up out of the hole periodically as I was digging, attempting to raise and fling off loose soil in the hole, but I did not find this technique to be very effective, especially with wet soil clinging to the flutes.

Works great for digging up root balls. I know that’s not it’s primary purpose, but I was have trouble digging in hard soil.

It works great, with a little practice.
I used the auger drill for placing fertiliser spikes, easier and faster that using a hammer. Just make sure you have a good grip on your drill with both hands and feed it slowly otherwise it will operate just like a screw. If this happens stop and reverse the drill and start again. As you are drilling pull up several times to clear the hole. Small rocks aren't a problem if you are feeding slowly but be ready to take your finger off the trigger or it will try to twist your arms off. Practice makes perfect. PS the 24" version worked best for placing fertilizer spikes. I also purchased a 9" version which was too short. Great for bulbs though.

Item without a drill
The auger was supplied without the drill. It is just like a piece of rod without the drill. In the picture there is a drill attached to the augur . But in the user manual they are suggesting to use electric drills. Amazon should refrain from advertising such vendors.
