Use turnbuckles when installing. Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace all have them.
The material is screwy. It shrinks and stretches as it heats and cools outside but I am also in one of the hotter states. I originally reviewed this item at 3 stars but have to change it to 5 considering the size of it, for how cheap it was. It covers a huge area of my front yard and helps keep my plants shaded and cooled from the 100°+ heat. I replaced my original turnbuckles with smaller turnbuckles. Trust me... Turnbuckles will be your best friend installing this. I just witnessed the neighbors snap right off of their house last night because they just tied theirs up which will not last through a wind or dust storm of any sort. Install this the right way and it will do exactly what you want it to.

Complete disappointment
Worked well while it lasted. This thing only lasted 6 month. The loop at on of the corners tore off and warranty is a joke. There is nowhere to make a warranty claim for the useless 5 year warranty and Amazon warranty email does not respond to emails. Spend the extra money and pay for a better product. Prime example of "you get what you pay for."

Love this patio sun shade
Since I'll be working from home for the summer, I wanted to create an outside area to be able to sit with my computer -- shade necessary. I am very happy with this purchase and it is a great bargain for the price. It was easy to install (15 minutes for someone with experience with tools), durable so far, and I get so many compliments on it. Very happy with the product! One note: The color is terra but looks red in the photos online. It really is more terra cotta so take the name at face value rather than the pics.

Inexpensive, does the job!
Amazing looks, fits pergola perfectly. The color goes well with our redwood stained fence and pergola and offers the perfect shade for our patio. I should probably buy a replacement so I have it for when the first one inevitably dies. I believe it is poly, so it should hold up to the UV for a good while, but the Sun kills all fabrics eventually. I tarp camp so used my knot skills to get the sail nice and tight in the corners without any additional (ugly) turnbuckle hardware. Google “Skurka Guylines” and learn the knots he suggests for guying out a shelter - they work perfectly for this application as well.

Make sure to plan your install
Ordered the 20x16 size and the hardware kit. Placed 4x4x16 pressure treated lumber 4 ft deep. Mounted 2 corners at 11 ft and the other two opposing corners at 9 ft. Tied the provided ropes at full length, and opened up the turnbuckles to their longest position. It took a bit of effort to stretch the shade out out and latch the carabiners. The tension was perfect and no adjustments were necessary. If it needs any adjustment in the future I can quickly make adjustment with the turnbuckles. If you put in some effort it’s a very good product. Will add another one over the pool soon.

Best money spent all summer
Best money I have spent all year. My patio is now useable; shaded from the unbearable evening sun.Not rain proof... at all. No problem for me, I didn’t expect it would protect from that.It does stretch so make sure you are able to tighten it back up after a couple weeks. It may not be an issue with the smaller sails, but the large one will start to sag. I bought another set of small turnbuckles and I couldn’t be happier. It’s holding up well after a couple months, but honestly if I had to replace it yearly, at this price, I would be fine with that.Trust me, if you are on the fence about purchasing, pull the trigger. You don’t have much to lose. Also, I will say the rope that come with it is worthless. Save yourself a headache and throw it right in the trash. I’m using just 4 turnbuckles connected to d-rings and that is perfect. If you need more length, use metal cables.

Good shade
Update: this shade has now been up on the beach in Florida for over a year through sun, wind, and rain. Still up there and doing it's job. Before installing I riveted the corners to reinforce the stitching. I used stainless rivets with bonded neoprene washers. I suggest reinforcing the corners by either doing this or sewing nylon strapping, heavy duty thread, and double stitching with reinforced end lock stitches. These are a great deal. The seller is good as well. They followed through promptly when I recently corresponded with them.

Awesome for shade
I built a pergola a while ago. It is nice, but it doesn't have much shade. This sun shade sail rectangle is so easy to install, and it can be used in sustained winds over 25 miles per hour alone. It was nice that when I put it up on the calm day and I can test it the next day with bad windy. Today which is a few weeks later, I have had sustained winds of 40 mph with 55 mph gusts. This is not normal where I live, but I can see it is supper sturdy. I built a kind of pergola to protect the sun sail in high winds to prevent us from having to continue installing and removing it. So far, it has been taking the wind for 5 hours. The tarp is very useful and my situation is abnormal because I have no tree around to block the wind. High winds are the norm rather than the exception. Gusts this high occur once in a while. Sometimes, when the wind gusts are only 25-30 mph, the pergola does exactly what it's supposed to and the wind sail is not damaged in the wind. I like this product because it provides relieving shade in my patio and lowered the temperature inside my house immediately by few degrees. I don’t think I have to take it down during wind storms, so that is a plus. However, it's easy to put up and take down. It is a good purchase and works beautifully for my sun blockage.

Turned it into a pergola
We incorporated this shade sail in a pergola and it looks especially sweet because the sides have a bit of a curve to them and the corners are not at right angles. I like it a lot. We bought the terracotta and at first I was disappointment because in the package it looked very orange. Once we got it set up, it seemed to take on a bit more of a reddish colour and it looks great. Is definitely not rainproof when set up horizontal like this (we didn't buy it for rain protection, only for sun protection) but it offers a bit of a buffer to the rain. We will take it down for the winter. Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability but seems like good value for the money.

better than the last one
I returned one I previously bought. What I like about this one1. colour matches the pressured treated wood2. is not fully water proof, therefore water leaks though it rather than accumulating on top3. although at first I thought it not opaque enough it does indeed block enough light. See #2 above4. more true to advertised size5. price is much better than any other Amazon sail

2 Thumbs Up
Love these shade/sails. I used to have one from IKEA and used it till it wore out, but it wasn't as good as this style. The key is the fabric - this product is a woven synthetic, that allows air to pass through it, while at the same time provides a good amount of shade. I purchased another style of shade from Amazon but it was made of thin nylon 'oxford cloth' and caught too much wind and even on a slightly breezy day it became a danger; it caught the wind and blew off flipping around, breaking the bungee cord that was holding it in place and if anyone was standing near could have gotten a good swat with the D ring.I already had one of these sails installed as well, I bought the other brand of oxford cloth to add a pop of colour, but returned it for another of this Aster Outdoor brand. I recommend this type of sail, they look good, are sturdy and they do the job. I now have two the same in place, they're attached to the house/posts with a very strong hook and heavy duty bungee cords. They hardly move, even in the windiest conditions, they look great too and give very good shade despite the looser weave.

Excellent shade sail 8x12, highly recommended
I was looking for quality shade sail to complement my other shade sails I purchased last year for our pergola. This is finally a real deal - the quality and sturdy shade sail you can stretch overhead, with good seams and well done d-ring corners. I just ordered another 6x10 one...Earlier, I had ordered couple of different ones from other suppliers with 'good' reviews, but they were just pieces of plastic (like 2 plastic tablecloths sewn together, they were un-impregnable, just pooling the water). I had to return them both...

Droopy
Although the shade performs well from a sun blocking aspect, it does not hold its shape well as it droop and sags in the centre after a few rain falls which is disappointing as now, to maintain a nice aesthetic, I have to purchase another.
