BOSCH Self-Leveling Rotary Laser Kit GRL 245 HVCK (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

I also have the Bosch GLL-3-80 which is designed for indoor use. While the GLL-3-80 has a nice straight laser line that is easily visible, the rotary laser line on this GRL 245 is difficult to see unless it is completely dark outside. I tried both around sunset when there was still some light, and the GLL-3-80 was clearly more visible when comparing the rotary mode. So under most circumstance you will have to use the laser receiver when you need to project an entire line plane.The laser is a little bit easier to see in line or point operation mode, but still less than I would like under daytime conditions. The manual explains the following about how to make the line short or long: "To switch to line or point operation, press the line operation button 11. The laser tool switches to line operation with the smallest aperture angle. To change the aperture angle, press the line operation button 11. The aperture angle is increased in two steps; at the same time, the rotational speed is increased with each step."The tripod is very nice - it can be setup quickly with the rubber feet preventing the legs from changing position, so it's not necessary to lock the tripod in place. You can move this around quickly at the site for a rapid series of measurements.This comes with two D batteries for the main unit, but I wish it had lithium instead because I'm worried about forgetting to remove the alkaline batteries from the compartment during storage, which could corrode if kept in storage for a long period. The GLL-3-80 uses AA batteries so I can use Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries for that model.Overall this takes longer to setup and operate and is more bulky to transport compared to the GLL-3-80. I was surprised that the compact "indoor" model GLL-3-80 has a clearer rotary line during outdoor operation.

It works horizontally (to make horizontal levels), or vertically (to bisect a room, or vertical plumb).The device is be suitable for outdoor use, e,g. building foundations or walls, as well as indoor. The laser has two modes, swiping a full circle, and swiping a narrow path. The latter is brighter (since it's a shorter laser path), and suitable for drawing a line on a wall. It makes fast work of any task which is longer than a typical level, or where an extra-long level would not fit. And it's invaluable for any situation where a regular level is impractical.The line is exceedingly steady, it's approx 2 mm thick, and does not waver (with even-temperature air) at 20 feet any discernible amount. The leveler is very sensitive, i.e., if you place the device on a carpet, that's too uneven, and it will detect the anomaly.

Was very excited to get this laser level. Nowhere on the site did it ever mention it was refurbished. Not anywhere! Even searched on Amazon "new grl245" and this supplies showed up listed as new. When it arrived there were "refurbished" stickers all over it. Don't feel it works properly. The receiver is very sporadic and shuts off unexpectedly during use.
