BEST x10 TRANSCEIVER!!
This Transceiver beats the older transceivers hands down! I've used X10 for over 20 years and the old transceivers have extremely POOR coverage with handheld controllers. This transceiver gives me great coverage over my WHOLE house (2,600 sqf)!!! VERY NICE!!!!

Much more modern internals than the R501 Transceiver.
I purchased this model because I has having intermittent issues with the much older R501 Transceiver. In my setup, I have an Active X10 phase coupler installed at the main panel, and a CM11A Interface Controller With the R501, sometimes commands to dim/brighten a light module would end up turning the module number just above or below it, On, or Off. Other times, a command to dim/brighten would trigger a macro to shut all modules off or on. I figured my AC mains must be noisy and corrupting the X10 commands. The PAT03 is supposed to monitor the AC line and only transmit when it doesn't see anything being transmitted. It aslo adjusts the signal transmission level to compensate for noise. It seems like my adjacent random commands went away, but now I have a new issue. Commands from my wireless remote often just hang and don't do anything. I have to press the button multiple times before the X10 command gets picked up by the modules. Perhaps the PAT03 is "waiting" for a clear path to transmit? Who knows.... X10 is great, mainly because it if fairly inexpensive to implement... but the protocol over power lines is just inherently vulnerable to modern day power supply noise, which is everywhere (CLF lights, LED lights, Laptop power supplies, Phone chargers, TV's, etc). 20 years ago, when X10 was newer, not so much electronic noise. Overall, I'd rather have a code not go through, than have every light in the house go on while I'm trying to dim one light. May try moving the transceiver to another outlet and see if that makes any difference.

Works well...but annoying
There are two things that need to be improved to get a top rating. The antennae broke off too easily. I think the metal components of the hinge are too dainty. I was able to solve my problem by attaching a copper wire, which was longer than the provided antenna and that improved the reception better than the original, so all to the good. The switch that controls the appliance number is very, very, small and difficult to set. I solved it by making it device 1, rather than spending the day attempting to push the slider 1/2 a millimeter to the left or right...bad design.

works as described
I bought this to remote control a exterior light that I daisy-chained off an attic light. Attic-light switch on second floor of house and this - with a remote control wireless - I can turn outside floodlight on/off at either house door.

Great when working
I ordered this to replace an older x10 unit. On the first new order the unit had terrible range (less than 5-8 feet). I contacted x10 and they told me the new unit was defective and to contact Amazon. Amazon promptly sent a replacement and it is currently working at about 20-25 feet. I docked one star because of the hassle of dealing with a defective unit and poor quality control. I had also purchased an H12a remote that was not working out of the box. However, the PHR03 remote in the same order was fine. Because it was 2 of 3 bad units I am factoring the less than stellar quality control into my rating.

Ties wired and wireless X-10 systems together.
This unit translated RF signals from handheld units like the PHR03 and motion sensors like the PMS03 or MS16A to the wired signals used by other X-10 modules. Compared to the TM751 module I used before, these offer much better sensitivity. That's important for people who use outdoor sensors that are battery powered without hard wire connection. While they can be used as appliance controllers, I use them only for the translation. One point off because the relay inside makes a fairly-loud "Clunk" when activated. Still, they really helped my system become more reliable. Recommended.

X10 Pro PAT03 Transceiver
I worked - go figure.I have a lot of older (pre X10 Pro) modules, rf wall switches, connected switches, etc.It works ok with the old stuff.I ordered some of the newer X10 Pro switches.Haven't tried the new modules with the new transceiver... not expecting a problem - but, stranger things have happened. This module "is" noticeably larger than the older transceivers. The antenna is longer. If space is a consideration, you may have to find a new spot to locate a transceiver.

Works Great!
Works better than the much older unit I had. Using two of these transceivers greatly increases the range. By experimenting, you may find that you have a breaker box with two sides for current going to different groups of outlets and switches. By locating an outlet powered by different sides of the bridge for each transceiver, you can effectively cover the entire home (and in our case, a detached garage with an office) with your remote controls.
