Quantum SuperLysine+ Cold Sore Treatment Ointment|Relieves Pain, Burning, and Itching|Cuts Healing Time in Half|0.25 Ounce

This ointment really works! I've had cold sores for years and tried everything. My greatest weapons are, treat immediately when you know one is brewing. Llysine supplement, along with Quantum ointment drastically reduces healing time.

Funky color, Funky consistency, questionable "Active Ingredient" & Vague instructions: but the darn stuff Just Works. Working Backwards from above: Vague Instructions: "Apply liberally as needed." Well, the more you use, the sooner you'll need a refill! But beyond that, have found that a TINY bit of this stuff goes a long ways: try to get Just Enough on the tip of my finger to actually SEE it, and that is enough to spread across the lower lip. YMMV, but suggest trying a small amount at first, with reasonably frequent application & find out whether that also works for you. As others have noted, this seems to work best if you get it going as soon as you get a hint of a cold sore, and realize that you will probably need more than a Single Application for full effect - but, caught reasonably early, incipient cold sores fail to fully "bloom." Active Ingredient: On the tube of "Super Lysine + Cold Sore Treatment," the "Active Ingredient" is Menthol - presumably the only ingredient "proven" to do anything. Lysine itself shows up as an Inactive Ingredient about midway through a rather long list of "Inactive Ingredients." Nonetheless - and whether it is due to the inclusion of Lysine or not - this stuff actually works, at least here, albeit perhaps more as a Preventative than a Cure. Still, this seemed to be a prime winter for cold sores, but the Super Lysine kept them at bay - and we never even opened the tube of Abreva we purchased at the same time, as it simply was not needed. Funky Color & Consistency: Again, others have already noted that this stuff has a funky Brown-ish color. Furthermore - at least for the tube we received - it also seemed like the components had separated into a more gel-like brown(ish) substance + a nearly clear liquid. This did not seem to impact effectiveness, however we also discovered that "gentle" kneading / shaking of the tube seemed to recombine the materials. As a side observation, upon first opening the tube it expelled a rather large glob of the contents. We were able to coax this back into the tube, but it might be worthwhile to take care in usage to avoid Wasting the contents (and especially given our PERSONAL experience of only needed a Tiny amount at each application!). Many treatments for medical conditions seem to vary in effectiveness from one person to another, and suspect "Super Lysine" is not different (that was one reason why we purchased BOTH this AND Abreva). Am happy to report that in OUR case the Super Lysine has proven an effective Preventative, and given its (relatively) reasonable cost it is therefore probably worth trying.

Here's my story. I've recently suffered 5 grueling months of recurring cold sores, ever since starting a new job. Prior to this, I'd get a cold sore every 4 to 5 years, triggered by fever or illness. So I initially started using Valtrex (up to 2000 mg daily) and was still getting cold sores constantly, a day or two between outbreaks. I tried Abreva but was still getting the beginnings of cold sores. They'd still disappear in a few days only to recur again. I turned to this Lysine product, solely relied on the great reviews. I put the product on as soon as I received it in the mail (it took about 10 days to get). Hallelujah!!! It's been 5 days now and I haven't had another cold sore. It's a bit early to be praising this item, but without it, for sure I would have had another cold sore by now based on what's been happening over the last 5 months. I can still feel the tingle - but no eruption of anything. I'm applying the Lysine ointment now every 3 hours, just in case. I will update this review when I've been using this ointment for a while longer. I am now a believer in Lysine. Apparently oral Lysine tablets (1000 mg 2 to 3 times per day) is well documented in research studies to be very effective in preventing and treating herpes simplex infections. I just started this regimen as well today. But so far, the topical seems to be working! UPDATE: 3/27/16 - This is still a miracle product for me. Works wonders for preventing cold sores. I have even purchased other lysine lip balms/ointments just to compare the formula. I feel that L-Lysine ointment (also purchased on Amazon) is a bit more moisturizing than this one. I still give Super Lysine 5 stars because it works, and would give it 10 + if I could. I have not had another cold sore since I've been using this ointment for 3 weeks. I am still getting some tingling, but have noticed it becoming less frequent. I am no longer using oral lysine tablets. The lip ointment is working just fine.

It helped heal a sore on my bottom lip in days time. Easy to apply and the taste was not bad. My daughter keeps it on hand for any type of lip protection.

LOVE this stuff. For me I think it works better than Abreva, Carmex and a few others. Really shortens the duration of cold sores especially if you start using at first cold sore tingle feeling. And can we talk about the price??? what's not to like

I've gotten cold sores since I was 4, and mine are stress/sugar and sun/alcohol triggered. I think every one has slightly different versions of cold sores, but if yours are triggered like mine are, go get this now! I got it because of another review that said they use it for their sun triggered cold sore. I don't know if it works as well for people with food triggered cold sores but NOTHING I have ever tried has worked like this. I went and bought it after a day of applying Abreva (twenty bucks!) and having my cold sore get progressively worse. I only get one once or twice a year but nothing has ever worked very well. I started applying this yesterday morning and already my cold sore is starting to go away, and it's bad, like can't-go-in-public-cause-people-think-I-have-mouth-leprosy bad. But if you apply every two hours and pat off old stuff before applying new, it's almost magic. It sucks out the yucky and heals up the skin. Don't suffer any longer! I'll update when I see if this will fully prevent them next time. Update: 7/30/15 I haven't had a major outbreak since I started keeping this on hand, If my lips start to feel itchy or I notice a small blister, I apply some of this and the next day......nothing happens!!! No blister, no scab, no itchy, no red. I hope that this works as well for everyone with cold sores, as I know what a pain they can be, this has fixed something that has plagued (hehe) me, all my life. It's nice because it's not something I have to use unless I notice a problem, and then it's gone immediately.

So I’ve been using this for the past month and it doesn’t seem to be working any miracles. It obviously helps some, but it hasn’t gotten rid of my cold sore quickly or in any miraculous way like I was hoping. Five weeks later there is still evidence of my cold sore on my lips and it has not completely gone away despite using this several times a day every day for the past month.

I've been dealing with cold sores around my lips for 25+ years in my life. I've been through all of the prescription creams, over the counter creams and natural remedies. Nothing could prevent and expedite the healing process as fast as this product; simply incredible. Years and years and years of frustration and dealing with cold sores for a 10-14 day cycle each time they popped up. A friend recommended this product to me so I gave it a shot. Just this past weekend I went away for a vacation, and as soon as I arrived at the hotel I could feel and see a cold sore developing on my upper lip. I immediately started panicking and getting into my own head about how this was going to ruin my vacation. I would have to worry about every item I ate (no citrus, acidic, salty, or spicy foods) and I wouldn't be willing to take any photos because this big ugly bump would be in them all. I applied this cream to my lips every 90 minutes or so on the day I arrived... and to my overjoyed astonishment, the cold sore was completely gone. Flat. No scab, no bleeding, no 2-week process. Simply magical! If you have struggled with finding something that ACTUALLY WORKS, I highly recommend this product!

Works wonders. I was frustrated trying everything else, but this works great. Cuts healing time by DAYS, and helps sooth lips and cracks. Best thing yet.

Update: doesn't seem to help like the lip balm did. But that could be just me. ------- Smaller tube than I anticipated but you only need a tiny bit when using. I previously used this brands lip balm and tablets and they helped immensely and rapidly. I'm hoping this ointment is as effective as it was less expensive than the balm. I will update my review in the future (if I don't forget).

This stuff is amazing! I have suffered from cold sores my entire life and I have tried everything on the market and home made remedies and this stuff blows them all out of the water. I had it arrive yesterday and put it on twice since and you can’t even tell I have one! Will definitely continue to use it and purchase again. The price could be cheaper so that’s why 4 stars
