Easy to Install and Secure
I installed these tie-downs today. The process was very easy; find the positions where you want them and screw the plastic piece down with a couple of deck screws. Note that the tab in the plastic piece sits under the straight part of the d-ring. Its purpose is to put some pressure on the d-ring so it doesn't flop around when you don't have anything tied to it. After the plastic piece is in place put the d-ring in and mark the position of the hole in the metal piece. Drill a 3/8 inch hole through the trailer deck and put in a 3/8 inch bolt and secure with a washer, lock washer and nut from below. They are very secure and while not really flush with the trailer deck they don't protrude too much. It is nice to have additional tie-down points other than the corner tie-downs the trailer manufacturer provided.

Working very well holding down a tarp
You cans see in my attached photo that the tarp over my 7-1/2' Portland Pudgy is being held down well. What you don't see is that three of these D-ring tie-downs are what's holding it down. I screwed the tie downs to my dock and then fastened the tarp using carabiners through tarp grommets and these tie downs. When it rains the tarp collects a fair amount of water adding to the strain on these tie-downs. I've had no problems with that water or with the occasional winds that give them a good test. Add that these tie downs are low profile, so that when I move the boat there's nothing to trip over, and I'm happy.
