Grimm: Season Four [Blu-ray]

😮! This comes down to the tale of two hexenbiest.
I won’t give much away if you’re planning on watching the series, but let me just say, the Weson are so interesting. I cannot stress how much I enjoy the cases. This series gives you a little bit of everything. The Grimm’s personal life seems to be front and center here with what happened to him. I won’t say much, but I figured Adalind would be the one throwing bricks at the gang’s glass house. She is an awesome actress.Juliette still hasn’t grown on me. I was trying to figure out why she was misbehaving. It was weird and a bit unreasonable, considering. The judging of Alalind seems hypocritical on several different levels and Nick hating her is a lie he has practiced to try to convince others evidently because he looks at Adalind like he wants to experience her in every way, but is intimidated by her beauty; therefore acts shy and afraid. Almost like a teenage boy who has a crush on the most popular young lady in school. This series has some great cases and there are new and even more interesting Wesen, then there is Juliette and her issues, the captain and his problem, Wu is hilarious, Nick’s mind is filled with a major life changing upcoming event and the person that will make the event a reality, and the rest of his friends are trying to help him the best way they can. Very good season.

Still a good show, but this is probably my least favorite season
Grimm is a great show with great characters and an overall arcing story behind the monster of the week plots. It's good. I like it. There's not really any character I dislike even a little.Season 4 is kind of 'meh' for me. It's got a little too much going on? (SPOILERS) On the one hand you have Juliette turning evil at the drop of a dime; she's literally getting evil flashes one minute then is full-on a bad guy hating everyone enough to kill people close to her. It feels forced and I guess was supposed to be edgy and dark but we never had any hint of any darkness in her personality, and if it's because of her hexen-stuff then wouldn't all hexenbeists be evil? And Sean's mom isn't, so. Meh.Then there's Sean being momentarily possessed. It kind of comes out of nowhere and then later gets wrapped up in like one episode. Would have been fine if it wasn't kind of rushed like that. This is a long show with 20-23 episodes a season, I feel like a little more time could have been put into developing that subplot but in the end it comes and goes pretty quickly and nothing really comes out of it. Felt kind of pointless.Still really love the show, but all in all, this is my least favorite season.

It's Addictive
How couldn't you not love the Grimm series? Everyone has a Hexinbeast or two in their lives. In today's terminology they would be known as a person with Borderline Personality Disorder. And the rest of the cast is just perfect. Many series run out of storylines after several seasons, but not Grimm. It just keeps getting better and better. Its a well organized series, completing most storylines in one episode and carrying on others for a long period of time. A perfect combination. The casting for the show is great. You love to love characters like Rosalee and Monroe, and new Wesen characters in each episode add spark to the show. Was glad to see Julianne terminated at the end of the 4th series. There seemed to be no real chemistry with her and Nick. The series has made great use of the city of Portland with multiple locations many of them with beautiful scenery. Am enjoying the 5th series currently.

I greatly enjoy almost everything about the series
These are remarkably well told stories for the network television of today. There is the apparently requisite gore -- though in usually small doses. The actors are quick and bright, with a much appreciated unusual delivery on most lines. The stories draw on old and ancient tales and myths, with a bit of history mixed in; the writers are well read.I greatly enjoy almost everything about the series, but am constantly reminded of what a fantastic job the cinematographers and set designers have done. I frequently have to replay a scene because I was so taken by the bold colors palettes used that I miss the conversation!Looking forward to the next season.

Good show gone bad
I really liked the first three seasons, but season four took a turn that really put me off. Not sure I want to see any later seasons. The relationships between the characters was the best part of the show, and in season four it was like the writers were going through an ugly divorce in their personal lives and working out their anger on the characters or something. Previously nice characters turned really ugly, a main character was even more of a jerk than usual, and some characters were just killed off entirely. Real bummer of a season. I'm surprised the show survived to have another season.

I enjoyed this season
After 4 seasons, I'm sure you know what it's about and I'll save you from reading what you already know. That said, I enjoyed this season, but not as much as last season.I do not like the dark place they have taken Juliette at all, I feel it was pushed to far.To me she carried a sweetness to a show which already has enough darkness " considering, what it's about "I don't know where the writers are going to pick this up next season but they need to tread slowly as entering the 5th season this could cause the ending of a show I look fwd to seeing. The incident with the trailer was just to over the top and leads me to feel it was another mistake by the writers.I'd like to see Sargent Wu show a wider range of acting skills he seems very one note to me..Alas, Nicks Mom, why oh why oh why?I think they the last episodes were just to much over-kill and may cripple the showIt's gotten very rushed too many NEW people all gunning for the same thing. It happened with the witches of Eastend and I saw it coming and see it again

Sometimes excellent sometimes dull and predictable, play spot-the-guest-star to relieve the tension.
Spoiled by some crass minor details involving Apple advertising and product placement -- you can see the bloopers for yourself, such as an Apple computer among a rank of surveillance monitors (all Windows, Unix, Linux or proprietory OS, as such things are), every mobile phone belonging to a "GOOD GUY" being an Apple, every "bad guy" owning a rival brand....ah, such is the world of endorsement. Beyond that, the series is really beginning to deliver some decent blows. What started 4 seasons ago as an obvious effort to make some surplus studio cash disappear before the tax man spotted it now commands a high special effects budget, and can afford grade-A guest stars per episode (check out some of the names...where did you see them before???). Even establishing shots have been upgraded, the trailer no longer sits in the same puddle of water every time it's shown. And it really is bigger on the inside...!The on-going storyline fades in and out of coherency, sometimes very intriguing, at other times, a pile of old drivel. But all in all this is becoming one of the better series on TV. Series 3 ended with the cliff hangar to end all cliff hangars -- a marvellous achievment -- but sadly season 4 kicks off a little lamely and takes a while to get going. Too many unresolved storylines cause a chaos of wandering attention. You begin to understand what's going to happen next long before it actually happens...you just want all that out of the way and some new stories to take their place.

THE WORLD OF THE WEIRD AND WONDERFUL CONTINUES
I am totally hooked on this franchise and, even though it's gone away from the original format, it hasn't lost anything. David Giuntoli is excellent as Detective Nick Burkhardt / Grimm, as is Russell Hornsby as Detective Hank Griffin and Nick's partner, Silas Weir Mitchell as Monroe, Bree Turner as Rosalee Calvert and Sasha Roiz as Captain Sean Renard and Reggie Lee as Sergeant Drew Wu is great. What spoiled it for me was the performance by Bitsie Tulloch who plays Juliette Silverton; she really annoyed me as a lot of her performance, to me, was wooden. She also looks anorexic in this season as she's become drawn and her face looks totally emotionless; perhaps she's had botox. Claire Coffee who plays Adelind Schade over-acts and she really doesn't need to. Fortunately the other characters counteracted this. The introduction of Jacqueline Toboni as Teresa "Truble" Rubel was just inspired and, in the final moments of the last episode, I hope she has succeeded permanently in doing what she did (nothing more or it will be a spoiler). These are personal observations and don't detract from the fact that I'm looking forward to Season 5 if only to see where the writers will take us next.

STILL GOING STRONG AS CHALLENGES MULTIPLY
The premise is as before. Creatures described by Brothers Grimm are for real. They remain among us, but in human guise. Most are peacefully integrated, but others pose a threat. Nick is a Grimm, dedicated to protecting Portland from the worst.Dramatic events at last season's climatic wedding here cast long shadows: Nick minus his powers; Captain Renard close to death. Much is to change in Season 4. One main character, hitherto nasty, becomes more tolerable. Another main character, hitherto likeable, rapidly becomes very unpleasant indeed. Tension throughout is high, one massive act of destruction certain to shock fans.Nightmarish? Gruesome? Brutal? Sadistic? You bet! The series remains true to the original stories (which needed much watering down to be rendered palatable for children). Here the tales are for grownups, with occasional humour to lighten the mood.Result? Enjoyable hokum, full of morphing (all by technical wizardry, relieved cast thereby spared hours in makeup). Viewers will have their favourite characters, Monroe and Rosalee mine. (Little Diana is worth the wait.)22 episodes. Interesting bonuses on Disc 6, "Highlight Reels" an exhilarating high-speed look back on major moments.Understatement of the season? "I know it's been a little rough around here lately."Very true. Fans would not have it otherwise.

Good Solid Grimm season, with a darker tone than usual
Following on from the cliff-hanger at the end of season 3 grimm is very much established now in how things will go. There will be some brilliant episodes with imaginative Wesen, great writing, and high stakes. There will be a few filler episodes that really just pad the season to 22 shows a series, and there will be one or two awful episodes.I feel that this series is a good one overall. the issues around nicks powers are dealt with pretty fast, the storyline with Monroe, Rosalee and the extremists is actually pretty hard hitting, and the last few episodes ramp things up pretty hard before a big finish. However there is still some utter rubbish in this season, all I will say in that regard is 'Jack the Ripper' and that accent. If you are interested in season 4 then you must be a fan, and I think that it is actually well worth your time.

So, Sooooooooo Good.
Excellent. Having bought the boxset Seasons 1 -3 and thoroughly enjoyed it we couldn't wait to watch Season 4. The standard of each season has been high, the character portrayal excellent, the odd addition of humour here and there very welcome and enjoyable. We just couldn't put it down. Just ordered Season 5 and can't wait. Really enjoyable escapist entertainment. We can't believe how quickly we got through Seasons 1 - 4 and still want more.
