Fabulous voices, instrumentation, harmonies and rhythms. One remarkable aspect is that one singer on this recording, perhaps Hukwe Zawose himself, has a voice that resounds in his sinuses with an amazing sound similar to Tuva throat singers of central Asia. One technical problem is that on the last two cuts, there is one deep percussion instrument that issues a frequency that sounds to me like phase distortion, perhaps at odds with the recording technology. All in all, a splendid recording.

after being music director of a college radio station for several years, i was exposed to unbelievable amounts of music and hype, which left me hating most music i encountered. it's good to know that i can still get excited about artists. i can listen to hukwe zawose over and over without it feeling like a terrible chore. highly, highly recommended.

The music on this album is so amazing, it is far beyond words. Hukwe Zawose's voice is nothing like you have ever heard before. Sometimes it is soft and sweet, sometimes growling and heavy. The songs are all wonderful. Each song drew me inside to a strange and beautiful world of sounds. I believe this cd is one of the best cd's I have ever had. Anyone who likes music must have it !

アフリカの民族音楽というと、素朴な楽器と反復するフレーズの原初的な音楽というのが一般的なイメージかもしれませんがこの盤で聴ける一つ一つの楽器の音色や声は技巧的にも多彩で曲調も緩急自在定型的な感情や展開に拘束されていない自由で洗練された音楽が聴けます。また、このアルバムは録音も大変良好で、Hukwe Zawoseの特徴である親指ピアノの細かい抑揚もしっかり捉えており代表作としてあげるかたが多いのも納得出来ます。わかりやすく開放感のある音でワールドミュージックや民族楽器のファンはもとより広くオススメです。才能あふれる現代の音楽家が残した作品です。
