OS Explorer ACTIVE OL14 Wye Valley and Forest of Dean (OS Explorer Map)

I bought this map because I was staying at St Briavels Youth Hostel (a castle!) and couldn't find any pre-tested walks for the area of any length. Using the map (folding it the opposite way first), I was able to map a walk to Clearwell Caves, near Puzzlewood (both of which are marked clearly as attractions), and another to a waterfall on the opposite side of the Wye river. The OS map's clear mapping of rights of way at a high resolution opens up possibilities for discovering places you wlll never find on the attraction leaflet stands at your hotel because there's no financial gain in telling you.Digital mapping is useful, so long as you don't drop your device in the stream you're fording, or drop it on a particularly unforgiving rock, or so long as the battery doesn't die. Hard copy is invaluable, and the new OS maps come with a free digital download too, so you get the best of both worlds.

To be honest wherever I am holidaying in the UK I HAVE to get an OS map of the area so when i was recently in the Wye valley I purchased this one from Amazon. It's such a beautiful part of the country and this is a superb map to take you around the small areas whether you are on foot, on bike or in the car. I explored the area extensively over the week I was there and found that the downloadable versions of the map superb. You can download it to more than one device as long as you sign up to the OS website - so that's exactly what I did and took my mobile and tracked us as we walked across the fields towards the River Severn. Excellent stuff!

I purchased this for my husband as we will hopefully be moving to this area. He was very pleased and looks like it will be very useful
