Amazing film, but could be not for everyone
I wanted to watch it for years and something always stopped me. Today I watched it and I think there couldn't a better time, it's almost like the universe sent me a sign. This movie resonated a lot with me. If you lived in a relationship and then, suddenly you realize this is not what you want anymore, you've lost yourself and need to rediscover yourself again - this is the movie for you. It's about a change, which is terrifying, about courage to leave everything behind and venture into the unknown.I cried for most of the film because so many things I could relate to. Many people hate this movie because of Liz 'having everything and whining' and 'going for a year of travelling', so probably 'having money can fix things' (obviously). Yes not everyone can afford to just go and travel the world like she did, nor can I, but it gives you an idea how to move forward and what to do in order to fix yourself. Everyone has challenges and people can be miserable in different ways, and we can't judge others because they have more opportunities than we do.

Life changing
Wow this film is so inspiring. I am about to go to bali in a few weeks and remembered this film was also shot bali so i decided to give this a watch to get me excited. What i didn’t expect was to be emotionally drained and reaching for the tissues by the end of the film. It’s about a depressed woman who just got divorced and decides one day out of the blue to go traveling for a year to find herself. She embarks on A solo journey of Rome(eat) , India (pray) and bali (love) Wow such a brave and inspiring thing to do. I just loved the whole journey, what a strong independent woman.I noticed a lot of negative reviews saying this film is unrealistic, no one has the money to do this. I think its probably people with depressing lives without 2 pennies to rub together and without the inner strength to change their situation. In fact this film has inspired me so much i am willing to take that plunge and go traveling next year, thats what savings are for. What an amazing chick flick and yes i am a man before you ask.

A very spiritual film
Words can fall short in comparison to just watching this movie and making your own opinion. Personally, I am speechless.

A film i keep coming back to
I must say that when I saw this film first time - when it came out - in the cinema I really didnt like it. And it was only because I thought "who on earth has got this much money to leave everything behind and go travelling??" It simply really made me cross. It took a few years for me to see the meaning of everything in this film. And now it's one of those movies that I keep coming back to.Now I find this film reaffirming, reassuring, and uplifting. i can think of many days of my life and other people's around me that would find the following line from the film relatable "I dont feel anything any more. I used to have this appetite and now it's gone". Liz says that and decides to change her life entirely. Everyone thinks she is nuts, her mad idea will not work out and she will come back disappointed. I love that she was determined, she didnt let anyone stop her, and she did what she felt was right for her.And that's why i keep coming back to this film - to occassionally remind myself that we are in charge of our lives, we make the decisions, and if we want something really badly nothing should stop us.Julia Roberts is phenomenal in this film, not to mention all other actors contributing to the story. Not to mention fabulous cinematography showing us the beauty of three so different countries.Just watch it - if you dont have a smile on your face the first time, give it a while and watch it again.

Watch the movie for entertainment & read the book for enlightenment
I read the book - loved it, loved it, loved it. Bought copies by the bucket for all my girlfriends. The book made me question a lot of my own life and how society shapes us and our relationships. I pondered over many pages and read and re read certain parts. Elizabeth Gilbert is the truth and she certainly deserved all the praise that she got for the book. Therefore, I was slightly disappointed with the movie. I knew it would never truly sell the story well because much of the book involves the authors inner thoughts and feelings and it is very hard to capture these thoughts without it sounding like Carrie in SATC.Nonetheless, I did enjoy it. The scenery and photography is beautiful. I actually walked the very cobbled streets in Rome that Julia Roberts walked. And believe it or not, my 2011 summer holiday to Bali is booked - gosh who wouldn't want to be a part of that !!Javier Bardem had me at 'hello' in his role as the suave Juan Antonio in 'Vicki Christina, Barcelona' so I am being slightly biased because I truly love both the main characters as actors. The movie is clearly one for those cold evenings when there is nothing on the box but please don't generalise, the book went deep deep deep. The author is not the selfish egotistical woman that the movie probably portrayed her to be and even if the author was (she clearly isn't) then what's wrong with that. Many of us leave relationships, marriage and family for the most ridiculously selfish reasons. Elizabeth Gilbert dared to go out there and find herself and questioned herself all the way. Her spirituality, her relationship with God (India), her abandonment of weight watching and fat grams (Italy) and finally love (Indonesia). Please read the book and then make your comments.
