overcome and adapt
The product works just fine. The instructions and recipe that come with it are misleading. The super expensive special sea salt they say you have to use? I've been doing just fine with plain old Kosher salt. There are lots of pickling recipes out there, either on the net (All Hail Google) or at the Library. I've had better luck with some of them than with the recipe that came with this, but that's probably due to personal preference. Try different recipes until you find the one you like best. The little cup that comes with it would work better in their smaller pickler I think. I used it with this a couple of times but it was just too small compared to the jar opening. I had better luck with a ramekin; it seemed to fit better. Even with the MacGyvering I needed to do this is WAY cheaper than a pickle crock. I've made pickles with just a jar covered with cheesecloth but it required more babysitting and much more scum skimming.

Best Christmas gift.
This was the best Christmas gift my brother ever got. I got it for him last year and he was pickling all winter long. This also improve digestive health. I couldn't recommend it more!

Meh
My SO wanted this and was sooo excited. Until he opened it. The bubbler thingy was broken in half. I asked if he wanted to return it but he just glued it. Then the DVD didn't work. He was fine with the product but i don't think i would buy it again.

Large Pefect Pickler
I bought both the small & large size of the Perfect Pickler for my husband. He has used the small size to make several batches of sauerkraut which came out great. He hasn't used this size yet, but I'm sure it works the same. He plans to use it later in the season when we have our own cabbage from the garden.

Jar top fermentor kit
I actually bought this to go on the 2 1/2 Gallon Anchor Hocking jar for brewing Mead and Wine. And it works GREAT for that. But, as I was reading about Pickle Fermentation and the great instructions they gave - I decided to get another one of these kits and a smaller jar (1 gallon or half gallon) to try my hand at Pickle Fermentation.

So tired to fight with this lid
As others told - cheap plastic, very thin, so thin that it is almost impossible to lock the jar with out air coming in. The rubber ring does not hep as it ih thin as well. Before this purchase we used 1/2G jar with a nice reliable lid. How is it possible to sell such a stuff? We usually do it together with my wife - she fix the jar and I do a titanic efforts to screw the lid. But this just a half of the problem - the worst part is to unscrew it! We bought 2 lisd - both the same. Well better to avoid buying this lids

Success with fermentation
I have been timid to try the fermentation of cabbage for the digestive enzymes. I didn't want to spoil food and this made the process so much easier and gave me confidence to actually eat what I fermented. I had no problem with spoilage.
