Easy to Install
I turned off the electric range electric supply at the main panel, then pulled the stove out from the wall. After cleaning up the crumbs from years of preparing meals, I unplugged the range from its 3-prong socket. When I tried to plug in the FireAvert, I discovered that the range outlet was mounted so close to the floor that it wouldn't fit into the socket. Thirty minutes later I finally got the screws removed holding the electrical box against the wall, repositioned it slightly higher off the floor, and installed the screws. The rest of the FireAvert installation went easily. After restoring power to the stove, I pushed the fire alarm test button while my wife watched the stove to see when the power went off. The FireAvert responded about 20 seconds after the fire alarm started sounding.Because the FireAvert's electric prongs are mounted in the center of the FireAvert housing, it requires about a quarter-inch more clearance from surrounding objects than the plug on the range. In my case it was the floor that prevented plugging in the FireAvert. Because I'm experienced with electrical work, know how to safely do electrical wiring, and was fortunate that the outlet for our electric range was mounted on the wall instead of inside the wall as are all the other electric outlets in most homes. Therefore, I was able to easily relocate the electric outlet box the quarter-inch needed to allow the FireAvert to fit into the receptacle. The FireAvert plugs into the 220V outlet for the range, then the range plug is inserted into the FireAvert's outlet, and the whole assembly easily tucks under the stove when the range is moved back into position against the wall. So, before ordering a FireAvert, carefully examine the position and orientation of your range outlet. First, make sure you order the appropriate version, either 3-prong or 4-prong to match the outlet your stove is plugged into. Then, if for any reason, you aren't sure that the FireAvert will fit into the electrical outlet for your stove, order the pigtail adapter/extension available from FireAvert. With the extension you won't have to relocate your outlet if the FireAvert doesn't fit because the outlet is too close to the floor, an intersecting wall or the top of the opening under the stove where all the electrical cord is stowed when the range is pushed up against the wall. You may have to rearrange the range power cord and FireAvert adapter so they will fold up under the stove as you push the stove against the wall. In my case we used a broom handle to push and pull the electrical cords into a more convenient position as the stove was pushed against the wall.

It works, get an optical smoke detector.
There is a dementia patient in the house and I wanted a safety device incase the stove got forgotten. I had a handyman install this device on our gas cook top, and put a smoke detector on the kitchen ceiling. If the smoke detector goes off it disables the cook top. Perfect! It is also easy to reset. The one fly in my ointment is that I bought the wrong smoke detector. I did not understand that there are two technologies used in smoke detectors, optical and another kind. The other kind is prone to going off for reasons other than smoke, like cleaning fumes or strong cooking odors, which may tend to occur in kitchens. I have now bought an optical smoke detector to cut down the false alarms.

Good but missing a feature
Installing was fairly straightforward but I wish there was a feature to default to “shutoff valve” as soon as power loss is detected. This may require a secondary power source but it would be a great safety feature.

Great if your stove does not have a closed back side.
I was watching Shark Tank and ordered this. It seems very useful and robust. My only complaint was the fact it was exceedingly bulky and did not allow the stove to be flush against the wall. I tried to order the adapter, but the process for that was a bit old-school and I had to wait over a week for a response. If you stove has a recessed back, this is a great product. Check that before you buy.

Good solution
I was worried about an elderly parent leaving the stove or oven on and causing a fire or gas explosion. This device works as advertised! If the stove or oven gets left on and the smoke alarm goes off, it shuts the gas supply to the appliance off...no gas explosion! It was very easy to install and only took about 10 minutes.

Don't waste your money
Took forever to get to work when installing. its a big box, and takes up lots of room at the outlet so you can't put the microwave back to the wall like before. And then it never stopped the microwave when things overheated. And it failed within 6 months and shut the microwave off. Had to remove it and toss. Turns out there is a children's lock on the microwave that is much more effective to use to prevent abuse of the microwave.

Cheap insurance
My son forgot a pan on the stove which caused $53,000 in damages so I purchased this to prevent a recurrence. Tested by manually activating smoke alarm and it shut the stove off immediately. Worth every penny for the peace of mind alone.

and recently had a bad fire due to inattentive cooking
Received FireAvert on Friday, I manage a senior Citizen Apartment complex, and recently had a bad fire due to inattentive cooking, After following the directions, and syncing the new FireAVERT, I did the test that they recommended. FIRE AVERT worked exactly as promised, Will not be installing in every single unit, but definitely will be installing in apartments where we have repeated problems.
