Micro-Mesh Model Polishing Kit

Better than expected
I've been building model cars for over 40 years and have tried just about every method known to mankind to get a perfect paint job which is (lets face it) THE most important & difficult part of building a model. without a great paint job, the rest is just a waste of time. using the Micro-Mesh polishing kit along with the Testors laquer primer, paints & clear coats is so easy it's almost laughable. It's almost impossible to get the paint too heavy with the laquers plus they dry and cure in a fraction of the time of enamels. my very first kit using these paints, (a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere painted Wimbeldon white) wound up with a total of, 4 coats of primer, 3 color coats and 4 more coats of clear without covering any detail, (Try that with enamel and then wait for a month before you can polish it). Then I ordered the Micro-Mesh kit and went to work. Starting about midway with the grits and working my way up, I was amazed. By the time I got to the 8000 grit pad it was obvious that I would'nt even need a liquid polish. after a couple of hours of polishing, it was finished. Unbelievable! A shine so deep you could read a news paper in it. After years of using sanding films and a host of polishes & waxes, with mixed results, I couldn't believe it. Now I keep asking myself, "How long has this suff been around and why didn't anybody tell me about it"? Now my paint stripping station is in full swing stripping all of that lousy old enamel off of some of my most prized kits. They deserve a fantastic paint job too.

Micro mesh is wonderful, but..
Micro mesh is great, it is better than normal sandpaper in every way. It cuts faster and more uniformly, can be bent or flexed or even folded without damaging it unlike most sandpaper which can only be bent up to a certain point before the abrasive grit starts to come loose, and if properly cared for it will last a long time. The main concern in caring for it is making sure to use it wet and clean it often. If you use it on paint for instance and don't clean it enough, the heat generated by friction will cause the removed paint to melt in between the grits and it can be very difficult to remove without damaging the mesh.I love the handi-files included with this set, they are the micro mesh MX files meant for use on metal (they have coarser grit than the regular micro mesh but are otherwise the same). The 2x2 pads included are a little bit small for most uses, it is a better value to buy the 3x6 pads and cut them in half since they are only a few dollars more expensive and you get more than double the amount of micro mesh that way.

description does not match contents
What's in the box does not match the description (but it almost matches the picture). There are no sanding sheets, there are only *tiny* (2"x2") foam backed pads. Again, no sanding *sheets*. No 2"x3" pads. Caveat Emptor.
