Great Palace of the Moscow Kremlin Hardcover – January 1, 1990

A second used book purchased on this subject.I read Robert Massey’s books on a few of the Russian royals of the past and I wanted to see photos of the palaces mentioned in the books.The photos are mesmerizing.Hard to believe that people actually lived in the palaces.

Excellent photography but as this was written during the time of the Soviets very stinted as to the Aristocracy vs the People. Including statues of Lenin placed haphazardly in odd places.

The book offers a nice history of the Kremlin and it has nice pictures to help the reader get a feeling of the place.

This is a very good guide to the Kremlin complexIt starts with a 30 page history of the Kremlin and then proceeds to take you around the buildings-- both outside and insideThe history portion is illustrated with pictures capturing it's growing splendourThe heart of the book is a very comprehensive tour of the KremlinIt starts outside with some towers and a gatefold showing a much more extensive view. There several two page spreads and approximately 25 pages are devoted to the exterior viewsThe vast majority of the book is devoted to the interior viewsAs the book was written in the Soviet era sections have appropriate Soviet titles likeThe State Halls , the Conference Hall of the Supreme Soviet of the USSRThere is a picture and state of Lenin and a gatefold of the HallMany other portions carry there older titles like the beautiful St George Hall which is covered in 11 pages including two double page spreads-- one showing the Hall and one a detail of Parquet floor. The same is true of the St Vladimir HallThe next section is the State Apartments followed by the Private ApartmentsThese also have a number of pages devoted to the various ApartmentsThen there are the Smaller Palaces of the 15 th and 16 th Centuries followed by the Terem PalaceThe bibliography is works in RussianThis is a very good tour of the KremlinThere are good views of the Rooms with details of the rooms along with photos of Furniture, vases, Candelabra, floors, fountains and other items of interestThere is extensive use of colourThe pictures are well captioned Kremlin & Its Treasures This looks an interesting title

Nice book containing a lovely selection of photographs.The book is nice to have and in very good condition, brings back some nice memories
