I bought this to support an 11 year old child to come to terms with his ASD.I was expecting something a little more engaging I'll be honest. The format is clear and the sequence is good, I used the sequence and content but adopted the content slightly. Some of the language is a little dated - use of the weird Handicap for example.Overall it wa helpful in structuring my work.

Practical and Easy to follow
Very accessible with a good overview and practical examples to work with young people of a variety of ages. Good condition.

Very negative
The book tends to focus on what is 'wrong' with someone with autism. It tries to be positive but the overall tone is negative and that's not a message I want my son to hear about himself

Bought this in order to break the news to a 12 year old
Far too intense. I have not actually been able to use it for that reason. I have not got past the introduction. I have not used it with my child and it cost a lot of money.

I Am Special Peter Vemeulen
Good clear worksheets with explanation notes and suggested further activities, may not appeal to younger children and they need an IQ of 90 at age 10 to use it. Assumes good access to support services which may not be the case in England but is still an excellent book and good value for money.
